Indications for ultrasound of the spleen

  1. Splenomegaly (enlarged spleen).
  2. Formation in the left half of the abdomen.
  3. Closed abdominal trauma.
  4. Pain in the left half of the upper abdomen (an abdominal X-ray is required with the patient in an upright position, including both halves of the diaphragm to rule out intestinal perforation).
  5. Suspected subphrenic abscess (fever of unknown origin).
  6. Jaundice combined with anemia.
  7. Echinococcosis (parasitic disease).
  8. Ascites or encapsulated fluid in the abdominal cavity.
  9. Suspected malignancy, especially lymphoma and leukemia.
