Indications for ultrasound of the spleen
- Splenomegaly (enlarged spleen).
- Formation in the left half of the abdomen.
- Closed abdominal trauma.
- Pain in the left half of the upper abdomen (an abdominal X-ray is required with the patient in an upright position, including both halves of the diaphragm to rule out intestinal perforation).
- Suspected subphrenic abscess (fever of unknown origin).
- Jaundice combined with anemia.
- Echinococcosis (parasitic disease).
- Ascites or encapsulated fluid in the abdominal cavity.
- Suspected malignancy, especially lymphoma and leukemia.
