Habitual vomiting occurs with hysteria, neurasthenia and is caused by neuro-reflex disorders of the motor function of the stomach to the sight, smell, taste of certain food. It intensifies in stressful situations and is more often observed in young women.

Habitual vomiting is characterized by the following features:

  • has a long lifespan (may appear in childhood or adolescence);
  • appears at the beginning of a meal or immediately after finishing a meal without prior nausea;
  • occurs easily, without straining (habitually);
  • can be suppressed independently;
  • very rarely appears in public places;
  • bothers the patient relatively little;
  • as a rule, one-time.

Habitual vomiting must be differentiated from peptic ulcer; stomach cancer; vomiting resulting from organic diseases of the nervous system, diseases accompanied by intoxication syndrome. For this purpose, appropriate examination and FEGDS are carried out.
