Causes: The causative agent of the disease is gram-positive staphylococcus.

Symptoms of folliculitis and perifolliculitis of the head of abscessing undermining Hoffman. The disease is often found in young men. On the scalp, usually in the crown and back of the head, nodes of an oblong or kidney-shaped form, yellowish-white or cherry-red in color, soft or fluctuating consistency are formed. With a close location of nodes and abscesses, tortuous foci are formed, resembling brain convolutions. When pressed, pus is released from the fistulas. The skin above them is devoid of hair, taut, thinned, ulcerated in places. The disease is long-term, exacerbations alternate with remissions.

Histopathology: The morphological picture is similar to that of acne conglobata.

Differential diagnosis. The disease should be distinguished from colliquative and warty tuberculosis of the skin, deep mycoses, tertiary syphilis.

Treatment of folliculitis and perifolliculitis of the head of abscessing undermining Hoffman. Broad-spectrum antibiotics are prescribed or the sensitivity of the pathogen to antibiotics is determined. General tonics, vitamin preparations, immunostimulants, externally - aniline dyes, antibiotic ointments and physiotherapeutic procedures (UHF, darsonval, low-intensity helium-neon laser) are used.
