The drug is part of a group of drugs that have a low hormone dosage. It affects the system, which includes the pituitary gland with the hypothalamus and the ovaries.

The drug depresses the process of binding hormones that stimulate follicular maturation. It also causes a slowdown in ovulation and activates the changes that occur in the processes of separation of cervical mucus.

Femodena does not have androgenic activity. In addition, it reduces the susceptibility of the endometrium to the consolidation of the blastocyst.

Pharmacokinetics

When ingested, ethinyl estradiol with gestodene is absorbed completely and at high speed. At the 1st hepatic pass, Gestodene does not undergo cleavage, but the greater part of ethinylestradiol, on the contrary, enters the metabolic processes. The latter is also more synthesized with an intraplasma protein. In addition, it passes into the mother's milk.

The level of bioavailability of the drug is 99%. Gestodene is synthesized with plasma albumin, capable of binding sex steroids, and at the same time with globulin.

Excretion of Gestodene and Ethinyl estradiol takes place in the form of decay products - with bile and urine.

Dosing and administration

The medicine must be consumed inside, every day and at about the same time of the day. Dragee swallowed whole, washed down with ordinary water. Take the drug on the 1st dragee during the 21st day. Then the patient should make a 7-day break, then resume the procedure. Menstrual bleeding often begins on the 2nd-3rd day after the start of the break and can end before switching to a new pack of drugs.

Women who have not previously used any hormonal contraceptive drugs should take Femoden from the first day of the menstrual cycle beginning or from the 2nd to the 5th day. At the same time, it is recommended to use additional contraceptives during the first week of the course.

Women who had previously taken other complex medications for ingestion should take the medicine on the next day after the last drug. It is forbidden to begin reception later the next day after the end of the standard 7-day break for the period of menstruation.

When switching from medications containing solely gestagens, or from intrauterine devices releasing gestagen, you can start taking Femodena from any day. If an intrauterine device or implant was used, the course begins immediately on the day it is removed. If a solution was applied, the intravenous injection - the beginning is the next day. At this time on the first week of the course you need to use additional (barrier) contraceptives.

Women who have had an abortion on the 1st trimester should start taking drugs immediately. There is no need for additional protective equipment. Those who have had an abortion on the 2nd trimester or after childbirth, it is recommended to start using the drug after 3-4 weeks. At the beginning of use in a later period, it is required to make sure of the absence of pregnancy and the first time to use additional contraception.

If you miss a drug intake (for a period of less than 12 hours), its contraceptive effect will still be effective. Take medication as quickly as possible, and use the next portion at standard time. If you miss an application with a duration of more than 12 hours (but no longer than 7 days), the dose should be used as soon as possible. Then the medicine is taken as usual. During the whole of the next week should be protected from pregnancy by additional means. In addition, it is necessary to exclude the possibility of an existing pregnancy.

If you skip the use of the drug for a period longer than 12 hours at week 3, you need to take it as quickly as possible, after that continuing use at the standard time before the start of a new pack. Before it ends, the probability of bleeding is rather low. In this period, when taking drugs, there may be secretions of smearing type and small bleeding. At the same time, it is allowed to make a standard 7-day break after the end of the 1st package, and only then start a new one.

If you miss a dose and miss no menstrual bleeding in a standard 7-day break, you must definitely exclude the possibility of pregnancy.

If a woman develops diarrhea or vomiting during the first 4 hours after using the medication, additional barrier contraception should be used for protection. In addition, it is necessary to focus on the application schemes for skipping reception.

There are also situations where a delay in the menstrual cycle is required. In this case, the drug should continue to be used, without observing a 7-day break, during the required period, until the end of the second pack. At this time, there may be weak bleeding, and in addition, highlighting the smearing character. At the end of the 2nd package, a 7-day break is mandatory.
