Ringworm is a common skin disease that can be transmitted from person to person. The etiology of this disease is infectious, so no one is immune from infection, and first of all, this concerns people with weakened immunity or with a special hypersensitivity of the body. For treatment, ringworm cream is most often prescribed - this is the most effective form of release of the drug, providing direct contact with the affected area of the skin.

Indications for use

Cream for lichen is prescribed by a doctor after passing tests that identify the pathogen. The exact drug that will be prescribed depends on the type of disease:

  • Fungal lichen is treated with antifungal and antihistamine drugs;
  • Viral lichen is treated with antiviral creams and ointments.

In addition, medications can be used to relieve the main symptoms of the disease - this may be itching, increased sweating, etc.

In addition to treating lichen, many of the proposed drugs are also used for other skin infections: dermatomycosis, trichophytosis, candidiasis.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

To successfully cure lichen, it is necessary to know what kind of infection provoked the development of the disease. In case of fungal infection, drugs with antifungal activity are prescribed. In case of viral lichen, drugs that have a detrimental effect on viral cells are prescribed.

The wider the spectrum of activity of a particular drug, the more effective its action.

An insignificant amount of active ingredients of creams used externally enters the systemic bloodstream - approximately 2-6%. Therefore, the kinetic properties of such drugs are often not considered, since they cannot have a significant effect on the patient's body.

Names of creams for lichen

  • Miconazole is an imidazole derivative drug used to treat fungal skin diseases, particularly pityriasis versicolor. It kills the pathogen due to the action of the active ingredient of the same name, miconazole.
  • Mikoseptin is an emulsion cream based on undecylenic acid and zinc undecylenate. The drug has antifungal activity and can be used for both treatment and prevention of lichen.
  • Exoderil is a cream for pityriasis versicolor, based on naftifine, a substance with a pronounced fungicidal effect. Exoderil can also be used for other mycoses and candidiasis, for example, for onychomycosis, a fungal infection of the nails.
  • Zalain is a drug based on sertaconazole, an imidazole and benzothiophene derivative. It is considered a fungicidal and fungistatic drug. It has a broad spectrum of antifungal activity.
  • Clotrimazole 1% cream, which is actively used for the treatment of ringworm and tinea versicolor.
  • Fungoterbin is a cream with the active ingredient terbinafine. This drug effectively destroys fungus and also has high restorative properties.
  • Acigerpin is a cream for shingles. The drug suppresses the reproduction of viruses, stopping further development of the disease.
  • Sinalar is a cream for pink lichen that combines the action of a glucocorticoid hormone and an antimicrobial drug with a wide range of activity. Sinalar successfully eliminates the main symptoms of the disease: itching, inflammatory reaction and swelling.
  • "Folk healer" - cream-balm for lichen and psoriasis - is a multi-component herbal remedy that promotes the exfoliation of keratinized scales, the destruction of pathogenic microorganisms and the elimination of the inflammatory process. Contains essential oils.

Cream for lichen for children

In childhood, the choice of medications should be approached with special caution, because not all medications are perceived equally by both adults and children. Of course, there are external creams and ointments that are approved for use in treating children.

  • Sulfur ointment is an effective and inexpensive antimicrobial and antipruritic agent. Before using sulfur ointment, it is necessary to conduct an allergy test.
  • Oxolinic ointment is a drug with antiviral activity, so it can be used for shingles and psoriasis in children.
  • Tebrofen ointment is an external remedy for the treatment of pink lichen in children.
  • Clotrimazole is an antifungal drug that is approved for use in children aged 3 years and over.

How to use cream for lichen

Unless otherwise stated in the instructions, the cream for lichen is used 2 times a day, for application to the affected areas of the skin. The skin must be clean and dry.

Treatment continues until the signs of the disease disappear, however, for preventive purposes, the cream can be used for another 7-14 days after recovery, once a day or every other day.

If you stop treatment early, there is a high probability of recurrence of the pathological process.

Using Ringworm Cream During Pregnancy

Pregnant women, as well as small children, are prescribed medications with great caution and only in cases of extreme necessity. Creams approved for use in children are often used to treat lichen. This category includes sulfur ointment and creams based on it.

As for other drugs, in most cases they are allowed to be used only in cases where the benefit to the woman outweighs the possible danger to the fetus. All medications, including external ones, are used by pregnant women only after permission from a doctor.

Contraindications for use

  • Hypersensitivity to the ingredients of the cream.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • In some cases – childhood.
  • Open injuries and tissue integrity damage at the site of drug application.
