Congenital chalasia of the cardia (synonyms: congenital insufficiency of the cardia, gaping of the cardia).
Chalazia of the cardia is a congenital insufficiency of the cardiac section of the esophagus due to underdevelopment of the intramural sympathetic ganglion cells.
ICD-10 code
Q39.8 Other congenital malformations of oesophagus.
Symptoms of Chalasia Cardia
Due to the insufficiency of the cardiac section of the esophagus, there is a low-intensity leakage of uncurdled milk after feeding, which intensifies with a deep breath or a low position of the head. Sometimes vomiting "in a stream" is noted. The same complications are possible as with a congenital short esophagus.
Diagnosis of chalasia cardia
The diagnosis is made taking into account the clinical picture, fibroesophagogastroscopy data, and contrast study of the esophagus.
Treatment of chalasia cardia
Treatment is surgical.
