Storage conditions

It seems that what could be simpler than harvesting chamomile? Collect all the flowers in a row, dry them – and the job is done. In fact, fully blossomed, but not fallen or wilting flowers are considered healing. Such flowers are directed to the sky, and do not hang from the branches. When drying, they will not easily crumble.

Chamomile blooms from May to early autumn, but it is recommended to collect flowers for medical purposes during the period of lush flowering, i.e. starting from mid-June. It is better if the plant grows in a meadow or forest. Flowers should be collected in the morning or afternoon, but not in hot weather.

When collecting chamomile, you need to look closely at the plant, because chamomile is similar in appearance to daisy and scentless chamomile (both have no smell), maiden chamomile (it has a solid receptacle, while the pharmacy one is hollow), dog chamomile (it has an unpleasant smell).

Flowers are dried by laying them out in a thin layer on paper or plywood, protecting them from sunlight. Flowers can be collected together with grass, in which case it will need to be turned over regularly during drying. In dryers, chamomile is dried at 40 degrees.

The raw materials should be stored in paper or cloth bags for no more than 2 years, but it is better to make new stocks every year.
