Diseases and conditions in which the concentration of testosterone in the blood serum changes

Testosterone is elevated under the following conditions:

  • Uremia.
  • Myotonic dystrophy.
  • Liver failure.
  • Klinefelter's syndrome.
  • Cryptorchidism.
  • Primary and secondary hypogonadism.
  • Cullman's syndrome.
  • The use of barbiturates, clomiphene, estrogen, gonadotropin, oral contraceptives.
  • Idiopathic hirsutism.

Testosterone is lowered under the following conditions:

  • Men with a karyotype of XYY.
  • Syndrome of Stein-Leventhal.
  • The syndrome of feminizing testes.
  • Premature puberty of boys.
  • Virilizing luteum.
  • Tumors of the adrenal cortex.
  • Extragonadal tumors in men, arenoblastoma.
  • The use of androgens, dexamethasone, diethylstilbestrol, digoxin, ethanol, halothane, spironolactone, phenothiazines.
  • Free testosterone in the blood serum.
