Increased concentration

  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Acute thyroiditis
  • Pregnancy
  • Obesity
  • Hepatitis
  • Use of estrogens (oral contraceptives), thyroid drugs, heparin, imidazole derivatives

Decreased concentration

  • Hypothyroidism (myxedema)
  • Increased protein loss (renal syndrome)
