To determine the size of the neck and body of the uterus and get an idea of the direction of the axis of the uterus, probing is performed. The hepatic canal is expanded with the help of Gegar dilators usually to No. 11-12. Scraping is performed by curettes that are inserted freely, without effort, to the very bottom, determined by a weak resistance. Then, with a vigorous movement, the parts of the fetal egg are scraped off the anterior, lateral and posterior walls of the uterus. Scraping is performed from the top down, from the bottom of the uterus to the external throat.
At the gestation period of more than 9 weeks, large parts of the fetal egg are removed by abortion. They are captured those parts of the fetal egg that are brought to the inner throat and are located freely in the uterine cavity.
After the removal of the main parts of the fetal egg, the whole surface of the uterus is checked by a small curette, which removes small scraps of tissue. Scraping is performed before the sensation of uterine contraction and cessation of bleeding, and not until the appearance of a characteristic crunch, which indicates a significant exposure of the muscular membrane of the uterus.
Artificial abortion is performed at up to 12 weeks of pregnancy at the request of a woman (social indications) and in cases of the presence of diseases in which continuation of pregnancy threatens the woman's health (medical indications).
