Arthrography is used for refined diagnosis of temporomandibular joint diseases, primarily for assessing the condition of the intraarticular meniscus.

After anesthesia of the skin under X-ray television control, puncture of one or both joint cavities is performed with the administration of a water-soluble contrast preparation. Then tomograms of the joint with open and closed mouth are performed. Arthrography is even more informative if it is performed in conjunction with CT of the temporomandibular joint.
