Antibodies of IgG to HDV in serum are normally absent.

Antibodies to HDV IgG (anti-HDV IgG) appear during the convalescence period (3-8 weeks from the onset of the disease), their concentration gradually decreases over a period of several months (sometimes found within 1-2 years at low concentrations). Determination of antibodies to HDV IgG may serve as a criterion for retrospective diagnosis of hepatitis, previously unspecified etiology.

The use of the method for the detection of IgG antibodies to HDV:

diagnosis of acute viral hepatitis D - period of convalescence;
diagnosis of chronic persistent hepatitis;
diagnostics of chronic carrier.
