Many herbal remedies and herbs can relieve swelling, reduce pain, and counteract inflammation in the oral cavity. Natural treatment of stomatitis not only exists, but is even recognized by many dentists as an additional therapeutic method. However, it should be remembered that stomatitis can occur in different forms, it can be provoked by various reasons, so the recipes below, as well as others found on the Internet, should be checked and approved by the attending physician.

  1. Chamomile is a natural remedy that is practically the leader among other herbal preparations. Chamomile has an anti-inflammatory effect, softens the oral mucosa, promotes regeneration and epithelialization of ulcerated areas. Method of preparation of a decoction - a teaspoon of flowers is poured with a glass of boiling water, infused for 30 minutes. The infusion should be filtered, add a teaspoon of thick honey, cool to room temperature. Rinsing with chamomile is carried out three times a day 15 minutes after eating, the course of treatment is 3 weeks.
  2. Strong green tea has antiseptic and tanning properties. Rinsing the mouth with green tea can speed up the neutralization of infection and help the aphthae heal faster. Recipe: brew 2 teaspoons of tea with a glass of boiling water, leave for 15 minutes. Dilute the strained infusion with 250 ml of boiled cooled water. Rinse 4 times a day, the procedure should last at least 3 minutes, the course of treatment is 2 weeks.
  3. A decoction of yarrow helps to speed up the neutralization of microbial infection. A teaspoon of dry grass is poured with 500 ml of boiling water, infused for 5 minutes. The decoction is filtered, rinsing is carried out with a cooled solution 5 times a day for a week. After a break (7 days), the course can be repeated.
  4. Treatment with egg white is a long-standing tradition in the treatment of stomatitis. In addition to the fact that this recipe is classified as "grandmother's", its effectiveness has recently been confirmed by scientists. It turned out that raw egg white contains a lot of lysozyme, a bactericidal substance that is sorely lacking in the saliva of a patient with stomatitis. The method of treatment with egg white is simple: break a washed raw egg, separate the white, stir it in 100 ml of boiled lukewarm water. Rinsing with the protein solution should be done often - every 2 hours for a week.
  5. Rinsing with flaxseed decoction helps reduce pain and restore the moisture level in the oral cavity. Flaxseed decoction has an enveloping property, and this remedy also helps heal wounds. Recipe - a tablespoon of flax seeds is steamed with a glass of boiling water, boiled over low heat for 10 minutes, cooled. The strained product is diluted with water to a more liquid consistency and rinsed with water 4-5 times a day after meals.
  6. Some sources claim that folk treatment of stomatitis with the help of kombucha is the most effective method. Indeed, kombucha or as it is also called tea jellyfish (Medusomyces gisevi) is a combination of many acetic acid, yeast-like bacteria and alcohol. Strong tea infusion is an excellent antiseptic that can dry out ulcers, aphthae so that they heal on the second day, and a week after rinsing they disappear completely. It should be remembered that candidal stomatitis is not treated with yeast-like microorganisms, so kombucha with candidiasis not only will not help, but will also harm.

Homeopathy for Stomatitis

Homeopathy has recently moved from the category of alternative medicine to the section of generally recognized disciplines. Obviously, this is the merit of many years of work and statistical data on thousands of cured patients. Of course, homeopathy for stomatitis is not a method that helps to quickly relieve pain symptoms and stop the inflammatory process, but it is an effective strategic direction in prevention and anti-relapse measures.

Homeopathic therapy is indicated for all types of stomatitis, but the most studied experience is the use of homeopathic preparations in the treatment of aphthous inflammation and oral thrush. The action of homeopathy solves the problem of alleviating symptoms and helping to activate the wound healing process. Here is a list of drugs that can be prescribed for various symptoms that manifest aphthous stomatitis:

  1. Poor general health, accompanied by a feverish state - Ferrum phosphoricum, Belladonna.
  2. Healing of small, shallow aphthae, elimination of itching, burning, general anxiety, irritability – Borax.
  3. Large ulcerative aphthae, cracks in the corners of the lips, pain in the mouth - Acidum nitricum.
  4. Deep, well-localized ulcers - Kalium bichromicum.
  5. Elimination of white plaque, burning sensation - Kalium muriaticum.
  6. Swollen gums, bleeding, hypersalivation, bad breath, deep ulcers - Mercurius solubilis.
  7. Aphthae localized inside the cheeks due to dry mucous membrane - Acidum muriaticum.
  8. The inflammatory process affects the throat, swelling of the oral cavity and tongue appears, herpetic vesicles form, the patient develops a constant feeling of thirst - Cantharis, Capsicum.
  9. Allergic stomatitis - Arsenicum album, Apis.
  10. Pain when eating, bleeding aphthae – Chamomilla.
  11. White coating on the tongue, initial stage of stomatitis - Mercurius vivus.
  12. Increased salivation, pain when swallowing food – Sulphur.

As a rule, homeopathy for stomatitis is taken for a long period - from 1 month to six months, taking medications - 4-6 times a day, the number of pills or liquid agent may be different, the dose is determined by a specialist - a homeopath. Homeopathic treatment should not be considered safe and such that can be prescribed independently, based on the information read. Homeopathic therapy is as serious a method as traditional drug treatment, the main thing that is required from the patient is patience and a responsible attitude to the doctor's recommendations.

Honey for stomatitis

Honey, praised by our ancestors not only as a sweet nectar, but also as a healing agent, does indeed have bactericidal properties determined by its biological nature. However, among other advantages, honey has another one that makes it unacceptable as a medicine for the treatment of stomatitis - this is the property of fermentation and thermal conductivity. In many sources, honey is described almost as a panacea, including honey for stomatitis. Dentists are convinced that honey not only belongs to the category of allergy-provoking products, but is also capable of creating an ideal nutrient medium for the reproduction of bacteria in the inflamed oral cavity. Therefore, honey for stomatitis should be excluded both as a medicine and as a food product, at least until the onset of stable remission and complete epithelialization of the tissues of the mucous membrane. As an example, we suggest taking a critical look at some advice taken from the Internet.

  1. The author of the recipe is convinced that the inflamed mucous membrane is treated with a honey solution. The recipe is to dissolve a tablespoon of honey in a glass of warm water, put the solution in the mouth and keep it there for at least 5 minutes. Obviously, the bacteria will not be able to spread completely in five minutes, but a three-time procedure can create a very favorable environment for the reproduction of a fungal infection. In addition, reduced local immune protection, an oral cavity irritated by inflammation - all this is a risk of developing an allergic reaction to honey. In short, the advice given as an example belongs to the category of unacceptable measures.
  2. Chamomile decoction with honey for rinsing. A tablespoon of dried chamomile flowers is poured with 500 ml of boiling water, infused for 30 minutes. A tablespoon of honey is added to the infusion and the mouth is rinsed with it 4-5 times a day for a week. Critical remark - chamomile decoction is good on its own, it is completely inappropriate to add honey to it, which creates a sweet nutrient medium for pathogenic bacteria. Conclusion - chamomile can be brewed, honey should not be added.
  3. Aphthae, ulcers are lubricated with fresh May honey in the form of local applications, honey is kept in the mouth until completely dissolved. Criticism of this advice does not require a long description, honey in the oral cavity, mixed with inevitably secreted saliva, is a provocation and activation of the inflammatory process, especially with candidal stomatitis. Therefore, this recipe is not only ineffective, but also dangerous.

In conclusion, I would like to note that before using so-called folk recipes, it will still be safer to consult with your doctor or carefully study the information about the causes and mechanism of the disease. This will help you make the right decision and choose a truly effective way to treat stomatitis.

Propolis for stomatitis

Unlike honey, which is unsafe to use for stomatitis, propolis is a truly effective medicine that relieves inflammation and accelerates the healing of wound surfaces. Despite the fact that propolis is considered a beekeeping product and is close to honey, it is still a different product. In essence, it is glue, resin, which is used by striped worker bees to fasten honeycombs. Propolis contains more than 50 biologically active components, which are divided into 3 categories:

  1. Resins, the amount of which reaches 60% in relation to other ingredients of propolis. Plant resins are formed from many acids, including cinnamic, ferulic, coffee and other highly active organic acids. The resin also contains alcohol.
  2. About 30% of propolis is balsams, which have tanning and astringent properties. The balsam contains essential oils, aldehydes and terpenoids.
  3. Wax components.

Propolis also contains phenols, flavonoids, quercetin, galangin, apigenin, ramocitrin, bisabolols, pinocembirin, kaempferol, alcohol elements and many other biologically active substances.

Propolis is indicated for stomatitis as an antimicrobial and wound-healing agent, but one should also remember about a possible allergic reaction to it.

Methods of using propolis in the treatment of stomatitis:

  1. Propolis tincture (preferably from a pharmacy) is applied to aphthae and ulcers that have been pre-dried with hydrogen peroxide. The applied propolis forms a specific film that closes the wound within 24 hours and allows the epithelialization process to begin. The procedure should be repeated for a week, or longer, until the wound surfaces are completely healed.
  2. Candidal stomatitis responds well to treatment with a mixture of propolis tincture and nystatin. A nystatin tablet is dissolved in a bottle of tincture, and the ulcers are lubricated with the mixture 4-5 times a day for 5 days.
  3. Rinsing with a propolis solution has an antiseptic effect and can also reduce pain symptoms. Finely chopped propolis (a tablespoon) is dissolved in 500 ml of boiled warm water. The resulting solution is used to irrigate or rinse the mouth every 2 hours for 3 days.

Propolis for stomatitis is not a single drug; it can be used either as an addition to the main therapy, or as prescribed by a doctor as a local antibacterial agent, most often in the form of applications.

Why is chamomile effective in treating stomatitis?

It is obvious that the main effect on the inflammatory process is provided by chamazulene, which not only has an antimicrobial effect, but is also able to activate the process of tissue regeneration, neutralizes allergic manifestations. It is this component that is included in many drugs, such as Anginal, Rotokan, Camilozid, Dentinox, Kamadol, Alorom, Kamistad.

Also, chamomile can be used at home for stomatitis. It is not difficult to prepare a decoction or infusion, the main condition is that it must be fresh and as the product runs out, the chamomile must be brewed again.

  1. A tablespoon of dried chamomile flowers is brewed in a glass of boiling water, the remedy should stand in a closed container for no more than 15 minutes. The strained infusion of light yellow color is cooled to room temperature and used as a daily mouth rinse. The rinsing procedure must be carried out at least 5 times a day, the course of treatment is 2 weeks.
  2. Chamomile is often included in herbal mixtures. You need to take one part of each plant - chamomile, oak bark, linden flowers. 3 tablespoons of the mixture are poured with 750 ml of cold water, put on low heat and boiled for 10 minutes. The decoction is filtered, cooled and used as a rinse three times a day for a month.
  3. Chamomile infusion on kombucha. This remedy is very active, so before making and using it, you should consult with your doctor. 5 tablespoons of chamomile flowers are poured with a liter of boiling water into a thermos and infused for 12 hours. The strained infusion is mixed with 2 liters of kombucha and infused again for 24 hours. The resulting remedy can be used to rinse the mouth daily to relieve inflammation, and the infusion is also used as a local application - gauze swabs are soaked in the infusion and applied to ulcerated areas for 5-10 minutes.

It should be remembered that, despite its versatility and the presence of many active components, chamomile cannot be the only way to treat stomatitis. If the initial stage of the disease cannot be stopped by rinsing and irrigation with chamomile decoctions alone, then more effective drug therapy is required, which can only be prescribed by a doctor.

Sage for stomatitis

It is no coincidence that sage got its name, which comes from the word Salvia - sun, health. This plant was considered sacred in ancient times, it was revered by great doctors such as Hippocrates and Dioscorides, and all because sage has a powerful disinfectant effect, which is used in our time.

Sage composition:

  • Organic acids – ursolic, oleanolic, chlorogenic.
  • Flavonoids.
  • Alkaloids.
  • Resins.
  • Phenols.
  • Tannins.
  • Phytoncides.
  • Camphor.
  • Essential oils.
  • Vitamins.

Sage is used for stomatitis as an antimicrobial and astringent agent, helping to neutralize the inflammatory process and dry out weeping ulcers and aphthae.

How to use sage for oral inflammation?

  1. Sage infusion. 2 tablespoons of the herb are poured with 500 ml of boiling water, the remedy is infused in a closed container for 45 minutes, then it needs to be filtered and divided into 5 parts. Rinse the mouth 5 times a day for a week
  2. Sage oil. You need to buy ready-made sage essential oil, add 4-5 drops of oil to boiled water (250 ml), mix. Rinse your mouth with this water for a week - 4-5 times a day
  3. When inflammation worsens, lubricate the ulcerated areas with a strong sage infusion. 5 tablespoons of the herb are poured with 250 ml of water and boiled over low heat for half an hour. The cooled product is enriched with sage essential oil (3 drops). A cotton swab or stick is moistened in the resulting product and aphthae and ulcers are treated.

Sage is also used in herbal mixtures for stomatitis, often combined with chamomile, linden, and calendula flowers. Sage is rarely used as a single drug to stop stomatitis; more often it helps to slow down or prevent the inflammatory process, i.e. it is an auxiliary remedy in the general therapeutic complex.

Sea buckthorn oil for stomatitis

The unique properties of sea buckthorn oil are due to its composition, which includes the following substances:

  • Carotenoids.
  • Vitamins – C, B, E, K.
  • Magnesium.
  • Calcium.
  • Iron.
  • Manganese.
  • Silicon.
  • Amino acids.
  • Polyunsaturated fatty acids.
  • Monoacids.
  • Phytosterols.
  • Phospholipids.
  • Flavonoids.
  • Routine.
  • Triterpene acids.
  • Tartaric acid.
  • Malic acid.
  • Succinic acid.
  • Phytoncides.
  • Pectin.
  • Coumarins.
  • Tannins.

Sea buckthorn oil is effective for stomatitis due to its high percentage of carotenoids. Among all herbal remedies with carotenoids, sea buckthorn occupies a leading position, which cannot be shaken by carrots or other representatives of the flora. It is the precursor of vitamin A - carotene that is considered the most effective wound-healing component, carotenoids also activate the immune system, including local immunity, help in the synthesis of collagen and keratin. It is these characteristics that make sea buckthorn oil an indispensable remedy in the treatment of ulcerative processes accompanying stomatitis. The oil is used in the form of local point applications, the product applied to a tampon should be left on the wound for at least 5 minutes, and after removing the tampon, do not eat for an hour. With timely detection of stomatitis, inflamed areas of the oral cavity, lubricated with sea buckthorn oil, heal within 3-5 days, complete restoration of the mucous membrane may require longer treatment.

Among the recipes for folk treatment of stomatitis, the most effective are those collections, decoctions and infusions that were made by people with medical education or qualified naturopaths. Self-medication is dangerous in terms of therapy of any disease, therefore, before using this or that recipe, you should consult with your doctor.
