The popular Maggi diet, the appearance of which is associated with Margaret Thatcher herself, is based on eating simple and satisfying food: eggs or cottage cheese, vegetables and fruits, meat. And, if everything is more or less clear with eggs and meat, then vegetables and fruits during the Maggi diet raise many questions. Since this diet is classified as a protein and low-carb diet, which vegetables and fruits should be preferred? And which of them should not be included in the menu at all in order for the result to meet expectations?

The Maggi diet, in addition to vegetables and fruits, involves eating a large amount of eggs, as well as less meat. Judging by the reviews, such changes in the diet really lead to amazing results, because in 4 weeks of the diet you can “lighten” your weight by 20 kg. True, this way of eating is rather limited and monotonous, therefore it is recommended to practice the Maggi diet no more than once a year.

What vegetables can be on the Maggi diet?

If the Maggi diet menu provides for the use of vegetables, then the best solution would be to stop at zucchini, cucumbers, eggplants, asparagus, carrots, white and cauliflower, beets, broccoli. It is advisable to use any one vegetable, but in extreme cases, mixing them is also allowed.

If the question is, in what form is it better to eat boiled vegetables, cooking recipes can be found on the Internet without any problems. For example, you can simply cook soup, vegetable stew, warm salad or vegetable casserole. However, we must not forget about the ingredients: these dishes should not include vegetables and fruits, or other foods prohibited by the Maggi diet - for example, fats, meat or fish broth, sauces, etc.

How to cook vegetables?

Vegetables for the Maggi diet are boiled in ordinary drinking water: the use of meat, fish, mushroom broths is prohibited. To improve the taste, you can add a little onion or garlic, fragrant pepper. In no case should you add oils, fats, ready-made chemical seasonings.

Vegetables are boiled to the state of “al dente”, we are talking about such a degree of readiness when the products are no longer raw, but not overcooked, because they have a pleasant elasticity. Such vegetables contain more nutrients, have their own natural taste, and do not turn into a tasteless neutral mass.

After boiling water in a saucepan, vegetables are lowered into it using a slotted spoon. Boil until incomplete, at which the characteristic pleasant vegetable crunch is still preserved. Next, the pan is removed from the heat, the vegetables are carefully removed with a slotted spoon and transferred to another pan with cold water (you can add ice cubes). Thus, cool for about five minutes.

Important: do not boil vegetables of different sizes at the same time, otherwise they will cook differently.

Meal time

The Maggi diet is quite strict, as it provides for scrupulous adherence to the prescribed diet. That is, if the menu says to eat three times a day, then this condition should be met: it directly affects the expected result.

Vegetables and fruits on the Maggi diet cannot be interchanged (for example, if it is indicated to eat grapefruit in the morning, then you do not need to replace it with an “evening” tomato). Also, you should not look for analogues: if you want to eat an apple, then you should not replace it with a pear.

In addition, the time of eating with the Maggi diet should be consistent: if you have breakfast at 8:00, then this time should be followed on other days of the diet. You can’t break the regime: the Maggi diet does not provide for “adjusting” to the days of the week and daily changes.

Vegetable salads

If it’s unusual for you to eat vegetables separately from each other, or before the diet you practically didn’t eat vegetables and herbs, then with the Maggi diet it’s better to start eating vegetable salads: it will be easier for the body to adjust to a new type of food. Salads can be made from cucumbers and carrots, as well as from young raw zucchini, broccoli, Beijing cabbage, and beets. The main thing is not to add oil to vegetables.

Try the following delicious vegetable dish, which is especially popular with the supporters of the Maggi diet:

  • take two dozen small cherry tomatoes, one red sweet pepper, a small salad onion, one pomegranate, some greens;
  • pepper is baked in the oven until the skin darkens, which is subsequently removed, and the rest is cut into squares;
  • the onion is cut into half rings, and the tomatoes are cut in half;
  • finely chop the greens, mix all the ingredients;
  • add salt, lemon juice, a little aromatic pepper to taste;
  • salad insist 10-15 minutes (vegetables should let the juice) and start the meal.

Also popular are the so-called mono-salads, with a minimum number of ingredients. Such dishes are quickly prepared, they are low-calorie and may consist of the following components:

  • cucumbers, greens;
  • tomatoes, onions;
  • carrots, garlic;
  • broccoli, garlic;
  • daikon, onion;
  • beets, garlic.

What fruits can you eat on the Maggi diet?

Permitted fruits in the Maggi diet are consumed mostly raw. However, they can also be baked, boiled and even stewed. The use of frozen fruits is not excluded, but sugar should not be added to them.

Citrus fruits must be present in the diet, which include tangerines, oranges, lemons, grapefruits, pomelo. In addition to them, the menu allows you to eat kiwi, apple, persimmon, as well as cherries, sweet cherries, plums, etc.

You can’t eat canned fruits with the Maggi diet, as well as dried fruits. Make sure that honey, jam, sugar are not added to the products.

Fruit salads are allowed, but nutritionists recommend mixing as few ingredients as possible in one dish. For example, combinations such as apple/pear, plum/strawberry, apple/orange, kiwi/pear are optimal. You don’t need to fill such a salad with anything: it’s best to leave the dish for 10-15 minutes so that the fruit releases the juice.

In winter, when the choice of fruits on the shelves is somewhat limited, preference should be given to apples, citrus fruits, pomegranates, and persimmons.

Persimmon on the Maggi diet is not prohibited, as many people think. However, you should not overeat these fruits either. It is enough to eat one or two persimmon fruits a week, after removing the skin from it. If you plan to add persimmon to a salad, then its pulp should be combined with other sour fruits - for example, sour apples or kiwi.

Forbidden fruits on the Maggi diet

Nutritionists advise: to achieve the desired effect of losing weight, grapes, avocados and ripe bananas should be deleted from the menu. ½-1 green banana per day is allowed.

All dried fruits are also banned - primarily because of their high calorie content. Prunes, dried apricots and other similar delicacies are best eaten in their original form - in the form of plums, apricots, etc.

When choosing fruits for the Maggi diet, one must also take into account the degree of their weakness. For example, you can eat a lot of green apples and not harm your figure. But sweet fruits - for example, peaches, persimmons - should not be consumed in large volumes.

It turns out that the choice of fruits and vegetables on the Maggi diet should be approached wisely, weighing all possible options. Preference should be given to sour fruits, and too sweet and starchy fruits should be put aside.

Prohibited Foods on the Maggi Diet

During the entire period of the Maggi diet, the following foods should be discarded:

  • ripe bananas, grapes;
  • dried fruits;
  • vegetable oil and butter, fat in any form;
  • meat, fish and mushroom broth;
  • any product containing sugar;
  • any sauces, including ketchup and mayonnaise;
  • any kind of alcohol.

With the Maggi diet, salt is not prohibited (of course, in reasonable quantities), but you really have to give up sugar and its substitutes.

With the Maggi diet, it is not even allowed to smoke, which for some people is the reason for the rapid rejection of this way of eating.

Vegetables and fruits during the Maggi diet can be eaten raw or cooked (steamed, in the oven, microwave), but you can not add any spices, oils, sweeteners to them. Only strict observance of all the subtleties and nuances will help to achieve the desired result.

The Maggi diet is a way of dietary nutrition that raises many questions from users. We decided to answer at least some of them as much as possible:

  • What to dress salads with? The use of oils in the Maggi diet is prohibited, however, other flavored salad dressings are allowed - for example, lemon juice, natural apple or wine vinegar, low-fat kefir or natural yogurt without additives. It is ideal not to season salads at all: chopped vegetables or fruits are mixed and left alone for 10-15 minutes so that they release juice. This juice is enough to make the dish tastier, without the use of additional dressings.
  • Is it possible to add soy sauce to dishes - for example, to salads? Of course, this is not desirable. However, some nutritionists allow the addition of soy sauce in a small amount if it does not contain sugar.
  • With the Maggi diet, sugar is prohibited. Can you eat honey instead? Honey is a natural sweetener, and it is very useful and easily digestible. However, it is not inferior to sugar in terms of calories, it contains such an amount of carbohydrates that is in no way combined with losing weight with the help of the Maggi diet. If you want to achieve your goal, then you will have to refuse to use honey sweets.
  • Can I eat canned vegetables and fruits, or homemade pickled vegetables? With the Maggi diet, pickled cabbage, sauerkraut, as well as any home preservation should not be used. Canned and pickled vegetables and fruits contain such undesirable components as sugar, a large amount of salt, table vinegar, so they must be discarded with the Maggi diet.
  • Are cheeses allowed on the Maggi diet, for example, if it is unsalted and low-fat cheese? Nutritionists do not exclude the use of low-fat varieties of cheese, but their fat content should not exceed 20%. The difficulty lies in the fact that such cheese is not so easy to find on sale, so it is much easier to replace it with fat-free dry cottage cheese. See  Cottage cheese variant of the Maggi diet .
  • Can barbecue, fried meat, chicken on the Maggi diet be combined with vegetables? Vegetables are one of the main products in the Maggi diet, but as for meat, you should be more careful here. Fatty meat pieces, frying in oil - all this is prohibited during the diet. Do not think that vegetables neutralize all the negative component of fatty barbecue or fried meat. If you really want to relax in nature, then a chicken breast skewers seasoned with a little salt and pepper, without the use of fats, will be an excellent solution. If chicken meat is rather fed up, then you can pay attention to such a product as chicken liver: it is baked or grilled. In addition, many people who are losing weight on the Maggi diet like to cook chicken fillet in Italian - this is an exclusively dietary dish that will help in the fight against extra pounds. To prepare the dish, you need to take about 400 g of fillet, 100 g of low-fat cheese (less than 20%), one medium tomato, a few leaves of basil, aromatic pepper, a little salt. The fillet is washed, beaten, dried with a napkin, salt and pepper are added, and then sent to the oven at 200 ° for about 20 minutes. The cooked fillet is taken out, sprinkled with chopped basil leaves, covered with chopped tomato slices, sprinkled with grated low-fat cheese. Send back to oven until cheese is melted. This dish is easy to prepare and meets all the requirements of the Maggi diet.
  • With vegetables and fruits on the Maggi diet, everything seems to be clear, but what if you really want coffee, coffee with milk, for example? Milk is a prohibited product, but coffee and tea without added sugar are not prohibited. It is optimal in the morning, for example, to drink tea with lemon - this is useful and has a positive effect on general well-being, on the course of digestive processes. The main thing is to maintain water balance and drink an additional 2-3 liters of water per day.
  • With the Maggi diet, alcohol is prohibited, and the use of fruits and berries is allowed. In this case, is it possible to use homemade berry or fruit wine, homemade? The Maggi diet, if followed correctly, creates certain conditions in the body that contribute to the loss of fat mass. Any wine, including a natural homemade product, contains ethanol, which can interfere with the necessary metabolic processes and disrupt their course. The sugar present in such drinks also leaves a negative imprint. Considering the foregoing, it is better to completely refuse wine, as well as any other alcohol, with the Maggi diet.
  • If on a fish day with the Maggi diet you need to eat fish and boiled vegetables, then is fish stewed with vegetables, pollock, for example, suitable? Indeed, the Maggi diet already from the third week provides for the so-called fish days, during which it is allowed to eat boiled or stewed fish and vegetables, boiled or in the form of a salad. In order to simplify the cooking process, many people prefer to stew fish with vegetables and eat it as a main meal. Nutritionists do not exclude such a change in the menu, however, they recommend making small divisions: for example, eat fish for a separate meal, and vegetables stewed with it for another meal.
  • On a fish day with a Maggi diet, how to replace fish? Sometimes, for various reasons, a person cannot eat fish, so he is forced to look for a replacement for it. According to nutritionists, fish is perfectly replaced by other seafood - for example, shrimp, crab meat, squid. These products are best boiled with aromatic peppers and herbs.
  • What can be substituted for boiled vegetables? Boiled vegetables can only be replaced with soups or raw vegetables; any other analogues are not considered for the Maggi diet.
  • Is pumpkin allowed on the Maggi diet, or should it be avoided? Raw, baked and boiled pumpkin is a very dietary product that can be used to make salads, stew, or simply bake in the oven or on the grill. Pumpkin is low-calorie, healthy, and, in addition, it has laxative and diuretic properties, which is important for losing weight people.
  • Is it possible to use kefir as a snack - for example, with fruit? Snacks with the Maggi diet are not welcome, as experts advise sticking to three meals a day. As for kefir, its fat-free version is suitable as a supplement to nutrition on cottage cheese days. The daily rate of kefir should not exceed 200 ml.
  • What fruit desserts can be prepared on the Maggi diet? Prepare Tiramisu - or rather, a dietary version of your favorite dessert. You will not find this recipe in any cookbook, since it was invented by those who are losing weight who adhere to this diet. To prepare Tiramisu, you will need any berries, either an apple cut into small cubes, or a pear, and even better, a cherry. In a wide glass, alternate layers of berries or fruits, cinnamon, cottage cheese. Each layer is impregnated with strong coffee without sugar. Place in a cold place for about half an hour or an hour so that the dessert is soaked. Can be consumed with or without mint leaves.
  • Can seeds or nuts be added to fruit salads? No you can not. Seeds and nuts contain a lot of fat, so they are not suitable for this diet.

And the last tip: vegetables and fruits during the Maggi diet must be consumed without fail, as well as ordinary drinking water. This diet is not too balanced, with a large amount of protein against the background of a small amount of carbohydrates and fats. But vegetables, fruits and water allow you to maintain all vital processes in the body without compromising health, and also guarantee the gradual normalization of body weight.
