Last reviewed: 04.07.2025
Uterine fibroids are benign tumors that grow inside the walls of the uterus or its cervix. Fibroids form as a result of a hormonal imbalance in the female body. It would seem, how can a diet help with uterine fibroids?
Indeed, myoma is a hormone-dependent tumor, that is, its growth is directly related to the increase in hormone levels, in particular, estrogens.
However, it is important to take into account that not only pregnancies, abortions, irregular sex, etc. contribute to an increase in estrogen levels.
Hormonal imbalance can occur as a result of metabolic disorders, obesity, or poor nutrition – lack of fiber, consumption of large amounts of sweets, excess fatty acids in the diet. Scientists have proven that excess weight can cause excessive production of certain hormones, since subcutaneous fat promotes the conversion of androgens into estrogens.
Women who eat vegetarian food have a significantly lower risk of developing fibroids. Eating mainly vegetables, cereals, fruits, and fermented milk products reduces the risk of the disease. It is estimated that 10 kg of excess weight can increase the risk of fibroids by 20%.
From all of the above, we can confidently conclude that the connection between the development of a benign tumor and the principles of our nutrition really exists. Therefore, it is very important to convey to our readers information about which diet for uterine fibroids is more effective, what nutritional principles should be followed for the treatment and prevention of this disease.
