To treat patients with rotavirus infection, the diet should be varied and light.
Rotavirus infection is a form of acute viral infection that causes intestinal flu. Children are most susceptible to this infection. In them, rotavirus infection causes cramps, severe diarrhea, dehydration, fever, and even cough and sore throat. In adults, the disease is milder, more like simple indigestion. The infection is contagious, transmitted by food and airborne droplets, so adults who care for children often become infected from them. The most favorable period for the reproduction of the virus is from November to April, the greatest number of cases of the disease occurs during this period.
Treatment of rotavirus infection with diet
Unfortunately, there is currently no drug treatment that could destroy rotavirus infection, so the only help for the patient is a special diet. It should be started as soon as the first symptoms of the disease appear, sugar-containing and dairy products should be excluded from the diet, as they create an ideal environment for the virus to multiply.
During the course of the disease, the patient generally has no appetite. You should not force him to eat, it is better to protect him from dehydration and restore the water-salt balance, giving him a lot of liquid, preferably mineral water and a solution of "Regidron". After a while, the appetite will appear and you can feed the child homemade jelly or light chicken broth.
What is the diet for rotavirus infection?
You need to eat often, about five times a day, but in small portions and be sure to pay attention to the body's reaction. At the slightest deterioration, stop eating those products that could be the cause.
The duration of the diet is 5-7 days, or a little more, until the symptoms disappear completely. Then you can start introducing other products into the diet, but you need to do this gradually so as not to create a sharp load on the digestive system. If suddenly after stopping the diet the disease recurs, you must immediately return to the diet and consult a doctor.
Diet after rotavirus infection
After the unpleasant symptoms of rotavirus infection in an adult have ceased, you should not immediately return to your usual diet, especially if it is far from correct. It is better to initially stick to a light vegetable diet, eat porridge and a small amount of lean meat.
Fried foods, borscht, meat soups, alcohol, coffee and cigarettes are best avoided, because after the infection the body is already weakened, so you should not subject it to unnecessary stress, and the digestive tract to unnecessary strain. Healthy eating, plenty of fluids and more rest are the best recommendations for people who have had intestinal flu caused by rotavirus infection.
Diet for a child after rotavirus infection
Rotavirus infection affects children much more than adults, so their nutrition should be taken more seriously, in addition, the child's immune system, and the body as a whole, tolerate both the disease and the diet much more difficultly.
After the symptoms of intestinal flu have disappeared, it is highly undesirable to stop the therapeutic diet for at least another 2 weeks, and begin to gradually add other products to the diet. Of course, you should not immediately start feeding the child pasta and stewed meat, the products should be healthy and easy to digest. You can add other cereals, lean pork, soups, low-fat cottage cheese, light yogurt to the menu. Everything in moderation and, as before, it is better to eat often and in small portions.
Diet menu for rotavirus infection
When a rotavirus infection is raging in the body, weakness, dehydration and loss of appetite, you need to approach the menu of the therapeutic diet thoroughly, because the diet should not only be easily digestible, but also tasty, and most importantly contain the whole range of vitamins and minerals necessary for the body. All this can be achieved if you make the menu varied and comprehensive. To do this, you need to try to ensure that the daily menu includes cereals that give the body carbohydrates, vegetables, raw, stewed or steamed, as well as fruits that are rich in vitamins, especially vitamin C, so useful for immunity. Once a day you need to drink broth, it has a beneficial effect on the microflora and is easily digested.
