The diagnosis of pancreatitis forces one to have a special approach to one's diet, since the patient's well-being largely depends on it. At the same time, many dietary restrictions are reduced to the insufficient intake of nutrients necessary for its functioning, which are abundant in fruits. But are all of them suitable for nutrition during inflammation of the pancreas and are apples on this list?

What fruits can you eat if you have pancreatitis?

The organ's role is to produce pancreatic juice, which is necessary for breaking down and digesting food. When it enters the stomach, the secretion enters the small intestine through the connecting duct. Its task is to neutralize the action of hydrochloric acid in the gastric juice, process the food bolus with enzymes, and facilitate the absorption of everything necessary into the intestinal walls. Pancreatitis occurs when the outflow of digestive juice is disrupted, it lingers in the pancreas and begins to digest its own tissues. Therefore, nutrition during the disease should be such that as little of it is secreted as possible.

When the pancreas is inflamed, you can eat fruits with low acidity, without a hard peel (fiber is difficult to digest), not too sugary (the diseased organ is unable to produce insulin to process glucose into energy). These include ripe and soft fruits:

  • apricot;
  • cherries;
  • peach;
  • pears;
  • plums;
  • pineapples;
  • tangerines;
  • bananas;
  • pineapples
  • persimmons.

Can you eat apples if you have pancreatitis?

Apples are also included in the list of permitted fruits, but with an eye on the phase of the disease, their variety and structure. In an acute condition, this issue is not even considered, and with its stabilization, heat-treated fruit is gradually introduced, mashed, as part of compotes and kissels, and then fresh.

In case of chronic pancreatitis during the period of remission, you also need to be careful: avoid sour, hard varieties, it is better to peel the skin, eat them not on an empty stomach, in the amount of 1-2 pieces per day.

A frequent companion of pancreatitis is cholecystitis. It is characterized by stagnation of bile in the gallbladder. An important element of the treatment of the disease is also a diet. Both pathologies have the same dietary table No. 5, so the inclusion of fruits in the diet, including apples, does not contradict the diet for pancreatitis.

Benefits

The benefits of apples are beyond doubt, and their availability allows you to take full advantage of them. Information about the chemical composition of the fruit states that their value is in the presence of:

  • fiber;
  • pectin;
  • carotene;
  • Sahara;
  • folic and organic acids;
  • vitamins: A, C, E, B1, B2, B3, P, K, PP;
  • many microelements: potassium, iron, phosphorus, iodine, etc.;
  • tannins.

It is believed that it protects against Alzheimer's disease, is an effective means of reducing cholesterol, weight, preventing cancer, strengthening the immune and cardiovascular systems, improving digestion, cleansing the liver. They are good for vitamin deficiency and anemia, have a disinfectant effect. [ 1 ], [ 2 ], [ 3 ], [ 4 ], [ 5 ]

Baked apples

Although heat treatment deprives some vitamins, it is much better absorbed by the body. Baked apples in the oven or microwave are what an inflamed pancreas needs, and on top of that, it is also a very tasty dessert. It is not for nothing that they are recommended during the rehabilitation period after an outbreak of the disease, unlike raw ones.

Raw apples for pancreatitis are introduced into the menu selectively and much later, when the health has stabilized. Red varieties, sour and very sweet ones are not recommended. Winter ones, suitable for long-term storage, are too hard. To avoid unwanted effects, it is best to bake them.

Apple compote for pancreatitis

In the acute phase of pancreatic inflammation, apple compote is recommended no earlier than the 4th day of the disease. It is prepared from fresh fruits without adding sugar, not very concentrated. Before taking, it is filtered through a sieve so that the fibers of the fruits do not get in, although they are soft. A more stable condition allows you to eat boiled apples.

Chronic course of the disease in the absence of exacerbations allows you to drink compote from dried apples, the so-called uzvar. Drying the fruit makes it possible to preserve most of their beneficial properties. You can even just eat dried slices, they will not put excessive stress on the organ, but will contribute to gentle cleansing of the intestines.

Pickled apples for pancreatitis

This method of fruit preparation was invented by our ancestors and it is successfully used to this day. Pickled apples are tasty, have a long shelf life and contain a full range of useful substances. But, unfortunately, they are unacceptable for this disease, and all because of the technology of their preparation. It involves the use of sugar, spices, salt, as well as a long period of fermentation. After fermentation, they are ready only after 2 months.

Applesauce for pancreatitis

Making puree is a great way to preserve apples from your garden for the winter. White filling is especially suitable for this purpose. It does not keep for long and quickly wears off, but the fruits are soft and sweet.

To obtain a homogeneous mass, it is best to peel them, remove the core and cut into pieces. The dishes are kept on the fire until the mass becomes homogeneous and the color is slightly yellow. Sugar can be omitted altogether or limited to 200 g per kilo of apples. The finished puree is laid out in sterilized jars and hermetically sealed.

The soft consistency of the product will not harm the diseased organ, but you should not get too carried away, as this can cause increased gas formation.

It is better not to eat store-bought fruit purees, they were probably prepared using preservatives.

Contraindications

Sweet apples are contraindicated for people with diabetes, sour ones are unacceptable for gastritis with high acidity, ulcers. The acids contained in the fruit can negatively affect the condition of tooth enamel, but for this they need to be eaten in large quantities.

Possible risks

Having a diagnosis of "pancreatitis" you need to very carefully study all the recommendations on nutrition and try to follow them. If the pancreas starts to hurt after apples, it is quite possible that they cause an exacerbation. Such complications are possible. What to do? Stop eating them, resort to a stricter diet, and after the pain subsides, gradually return apples to the menu, first baked, then little by little and raw and be sure to monitor the reaction.
