Causes of Nausea During Pregnancy
Pregnancy is a gift, but sometimes you have to endure a lot to give the world a new life. In particular, many pregnant women are driven crazy by nausea during pregnancy. Everything is aggravated by the fact that doctors still cannot name one universal reason that provokes nausea. Various assumptions are confirmed by certain facts. Thus, psychologists believe that those women who wanted to get pregnant suffer from nausea and its consequences much less often. But ladies who did not really want a child or simply did not plan it suffer from problems with nausea much more often.
Most often, nausea during pregnancy occurs in the first weeks, as well as in the last. Much less often, nausea occurs throughout the entire pregnancy.
Doctors believe that one of the main reasons for nausea during pregnancy is the level of hormones. Due to changes in the body, a woman suffers from a deterioration in hormonal levels.
The occurrence of nausea during pregnancy is also affected by lifestyle and the general condition of the body. The fact is that some scientists are sure that the occurrence of nausea during pregnancy is affected by inflammation or other diseases that the woman has suffered before. Also, the occurrence of such unpleasant symptoms can be affected by stress and the general psychological state of the pregnant woman.

Severe nausea during pregnancy
Almost every woman has felt nausea during pregnancy, but sometimes the attacks are so strong that it is simply impossible to endure them. Mild nausea is not dangerous and is quite normal for pregnant women. But if nausea during pregnancy is strong and bothers you very often, you should immediately consult a doctor.
The fact is that severe nausea attacks can be caused by serious illnesses or problems with the course of pregnancy. Just do not be alarmed and thereby expose your body to stress, in fact, severe nausea is very rare. Such nausea during pregnancy occurs more often than 20-25 times a day, attacks occur not only in the morning, but also throughout the day, during sudden movements. There is also severe weakness, dehydration and even weight loss. Such a situation can be dangerous for the unborn child and for the pregnant woman. Many doctors advise to consult a doctor if nausea attacks occur more than ten times a day. It is also worth paying attention to the fact that nausea during pregnancy occurs on an empty stomach and very often disappears if you simply have a snack.
The consulting physician will definitely warn the pregnant woman about possible risks and situations when it is necessary to urgently consult a doctor.
By the way, do not forget that severe nausea can be provoked by bad habits, as well as failure to follow the rules of proper nutrition. Therefore, medical prescriptions that pregnant women should not drink alcohol, smoke, eat fried, smoked and other harmful foods concern not only the health of the future baby, but also the well-being of the expectant mother.
Diagnosis of nausea during pregnancy
If nausea attacks during pregnancy are worrisome and are not limited to mild morning sickness, it is worth consulting a doctor. Doctors usually distinguish three types of nausea:
- "Normal" - nausea during pregnancy occurs in almost all pregnant women. In such cases, nausea attacks occur no more than 3-5 times a day. The attacks themselves cause almost no discomfort, pregnant women do not experience weight loss and, in general, do not affect the health of the expectant mother and child.
- "Average" - nausea occurs up to ten times a day. This may be the first "alarm" of problems with pregnancy. If nausea is accompanied by other symptoms, such as dizziness, fever and pressure surges, hospitalization cannot be avoided.
- "Dangerous" - attacks occur more often than 15 times a day. This affects not only the mother's weight loss, but also the fetus, and can also indicate many diseases. Therefore, in such cases, pregnant women are immediately hospitalized and undergo the necessary tests.
If you complain of nausea during pregnancy, your doctor may order a series of tests to rule out conditions such as hepatitis, abnormal fertilization of the egg, and thyroid problems. Therefore, you will need to perform an additional pelvic ultrasound, as well as take a blood and urine test for a general analysis.
Treatment of nausea during pregnancy
Nausea during pregnancy does not always require treatment. Infrequent and mild attacks of nausea may pass on their own and do not cause any particular harm to pregnant women. However, if the attacks affect health, the attending physician will most likely prescribe additional tests and also hospitalize the pregnant woman, since such treatment is necessarily carried out under the supervision of a physician.
After analyzing the results of the studies, the doctor prescribes the necessary treatment. By the way, nausea can also be caused by a lack of vitamins, and to relieve the symptoms, it is enough to simply replenish the vitamin supply.
Doctors may also prescribe antiemetics, both orally and rectally. When choosing medications, doctors take into account the side effects of the drugs. Many pregnant women refuse to take medications to protect the fetus from possible harmful effects. But many pharmacists assure that there are many drugs that are safe for pregnant women.
Pyridoxine
For this purpose, it is possible to prescribe multivitamin kits or Vitamin B6 or, as pharmacists call it, "Pyridoxine". It must be taken orally, after meals. For prevention, doctors usually prescribe about 5 mg per day. The dose of the drug is increased if a stronger effect on the body is needed. Then the dose can be up to 30 mg and the medicine must be taken twice a day. The exact dosage is prescribed by the doctor depending on the condition of the pregnant woman. The main side effects of taking such a drug are allergic reactions, mild numbness may occur, lactation may be significantly reduced in nursing mothers. In very rare cases, convulsions may occur.
Hofitol
Another drug that is prescribed to relieve nausea and vomiting in pregnant women is Hofitol. It should be taken 1-2 tablets per day. The frequency of administration is 3 times per day. This drug can also be taken as a solution before meals. Hofitol has very few side effects. Sometimes urticaria, i.e. an allergic reaction, and diarrhea may occur.
Meclizine
"Meclozine" - these tablets are very often prescribed to pregnant women. The daily dose of the drug is 25-50 mg. The drug has minor side effects. Meclozine can cause drowsiness, slight dry mouth and rapid fatigue.
Cocculin
"Kokkulin" is very convenient to use, since its pharmacological group is lozenges. A doctor can prescribe the correct dosage, but it is usually recommended to dissolve 1-2 tablets per hour. If the result is noticeable immediately, the drug should be stopped and resumed after new attacks. By the way, to date, this drug has not been found to have any side effects.
During severe bouts of nausea, doctors may even prescribe fasting. And replenishment of microelements, in other words, nutrition itself, is carried out by administering nutrients intravenously.
Preventing Nausea During Pregnancy
First of all, to avoid such a phenomenon as nausea during pregnancy, it is worth taking a responsible approach to pregnancy planning. The fact is that preparation can ease the course of pregnancy and remove many symptoms. At least, many doctors believe that the correct diet, a complete examination of the body and treatment of all identified diseases will significantly improve the condition of the expectant mother.
There are also simple tips for pregnant women who experience mild nausea during pregnancy. First, it is worth separating food intake and making a diet and daily routine.
It is better to eat several times a day, but in small portions. In the morning, it is better to give preference to yogurt, boiled vegetables or fruits.
It is also worth reducing physical activity, but walking in the fresh air is worth at least two to three hours a day. Products such as eggs, cottage cheese and other foods containing a lot of protein can also relieve bouts of nausea.
You shouldn't ignore your body's "requests". As a rule, during pregnancy, the body lacks certain vitamins and microelements, and the body requires them. And since we have a certain memory of what we ate, the body tells us what exactly to eat. By the way, this is most likely the reason why pregnant women often eat completely incompatible foods.
You can prepare special decoctions that will reduce the unpleasant sensations. But before you give yourself over to folk medicine, be sure to consult a doctor. Aromatherapy and some motion sickness remedies can also be used to relieve symptoms.
Now we see that nausea during pregnancy “haunts” almost every expectant mother, but thanks to simple secrets and good health, these unpleasant symptoms can be avoided.
