A popular cold remedy based on a beekeeping product is propolis with milk. This remedy is used for coughs for both adults and children.
Essentially, propolis is bee glue with a tart and slightly bitter taste. If consumed in its pure form, it can cause numbness of the tongue. Milk softens its taste, which is especially effective in relieving pain in the throat with tonsillitis, acute respiratory viral infections, acute respiratory infections and other inflammatory lesions of the respiratory tract.
Beneficial properties of the medicinal combination:
- Rich in vitamins and minerals: riboflavin, ascorbic acid, carotene, tocopherol and others.
- Increased content of essential amino acids useful for the body.
- Improves the protective properties of the immune system.
- Increases resistance to inflammatory and infectious diseases.
- Accelerates the regeneration processes of damaged mucous membranes and tissues.
- Calming and soothing effect.
When preparing a medicinal product, you should know that propolis does not react to changes in temperature. That is, it can be heated, boiled and even frozen, which will not affect its properties.
Medicinal recipes:
- Cool the propolis to make it easier to grind it with a grater or a sharp knife. You need to prepare two spoons of the ground product. Pour 500 ml of milk into a container that can be heated and heat it up. Add propolis to the hot liquid and mix thoroughly. Boil the product over a fire for 15-20 minutes and let it brew. After cooling, carefully remove the wax crust that has formed on the surface of the milk, and pour the medicine into a bottle and put it in the refrigerator. Take ¼ cup 3-4 times a day.
- Take a pharmacy tincture of propolis with a low % of alcohol. Heat a glass of boiling water and add 20 drops of the preparation, stir and take ½ glass 2-3 times a day.
Before using the above recipes, you should make sure that there are no allergic reactions to bee products and lactose.

A sticky substance of brownish or green color produced by bees is propolis. It consists of essential oils, resins, wax and pollen. It contains a whole complex of vitamins, minerals and other useful substances. Many different preparations are made on its basis.
Propolis tincture with milk for cough deserves special attention. This combination is effective for various colds: tonsillitis, sinusitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis and other pathologies of the upper or lower respiratory tract.
The medicine has the following properties:
- Restores.

The tincture can be purchased at a pharmacy or prepared independently. Take 10 g of propolis and 90 ml of 70% medical alcohol. Heat the alcohol in a water bath to 50 degrees and add the crushed raw materials, stir until completely dissolved. The mixture should not boil. As soon as all the propolis has dissolved, the medicine can be poured into a dark glass container and stored in a cool place for more than a year.
Milk makes the tincture soft and enhances its positive effect on the body. The remedy not only softens the throat, but also promotes good removal of phlegm from the lungs. Let's consider the most effective recipes:
- Heat 500 ml of milk and add two tablespoons of the tincture to it, mix well. Boil the remedy on low heat for 15-20 minutes. Take 1 teaspoon 20 minutes before meals.
- Dissolve 2-3 drops of tincture in 50-100 ml of hot milk. Take the remedy an hour before meals and before bedtime for a week.
- Add a couple of drops of the tincture to a glass of warm milk and stir well. To improve the taste, you can add honey or sugar to the remedy.
The medicine should be taken with special caution, as exceeding the dosage of propolis can cause side effects. In some patients, this manifests itself as irritation of the oral mucosa, various gastrointestinal disorders and deterioration of general well-being. The product is contraindicated for asthmatics, allergy sufferers, those prone to dermatological reactions and patients under 12 years of age.
