The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted in the first reading the draft Law "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine" concerning restrictions in the use of assisted reproductive technologies.

The decision was voted by 264 alternative deputies out of 385 registered in the session hall.

The bill establishes that spouses who are citizens of states where this method of using reproductive technologies are prohibited by law are not recognized as the parents of the child.

It is also stipulated that the age of an adult woman to whom artificial insemination is applied and embryo implantation should not exceed 49 years on the day of transfer of embryos. In exceptional cases, the age limit for a woman can be increased on the basis of the opinion of the commission formed by the central executive authority in the health sector.

Subsidiary (surrogate) motherhood is provided only to citizens of those countries where this procedure is permitted by law.

The conditions for conducting surrogate motherhood are the absence of a direct genetic connection between the child and the auxiliary (surrogate) mother, and a genetic link with at least one of the future parents.

The right to artificial insemination and implantation of the embryo is carried out in the manner prescribed by law.
