Ukraine lacks standards for medical waste disposal (video)

Today, the main places where medical waste is buried are city dumps, roadside ravines and cemeteries. In these places, environmentalists often find disposable syringes, needles and vaccine packaging, say representatives of the Ministry of Ecology of Ukraine.

According to the standards that apply in all European countries, medical waste must be collected and disposed of by specially licensed organizations. Contractual relationships between such organizations and clinics are the norm.
