A list of the rarest skin diseases has been published
Last reviewed: 01.07.2025
You've probably had some common skin conditions, like herpes, but some skin conditions are rare and can indicate a more serious illness.
Vitiligo
This disease is caused by the body's inability to produce melanin, which gives the skin its natural color and is expressed in pigmentation disorder. The lesions can appear on any part of the skin.
Albinism
People with this rare condition lack pigment in their hair, skin, iris and pigment membranes of the eye. Not only does the skin appear very light, it also lacks natural protection from the sun.
Filiform warts
They can be either flesh-colored or dark brown, often on a stalk. They often appear on the neck, lips, and eyelids.
Impetigo
This disease makes a person want to scratch the sore spot. It is contagious and is most often a problem for children's groups. The skin develops vesicular-pustular rashes.
Poison Ivy Allergy
Occurs when the skin comes into direct contact with a poisonous plant. It does not pose a serious health risk, but an itchy blister appears at the site of contact, which develops into a rash.
Hives
It can be caused by eating nuts, shellfish, and taking certain medications. Heat or cold can also trigger hives.
Eczema
Is a chronic skin condition characterized by itchy, scaly rashes. People with eczema often have a family history of allergic diseases, such as asthma and hay fever.
Rosacea
Similar to acne, it is a chronic inflammation of the skin that causes the face to become red and forms small, red, pus-filled bumps or pustules on the skin.
Lichen
Is a contagious fungal infection of the skin that can affect the entire body, scalp, groin and legs. It causes itching and has very clear edges.
Rhinophyma
A severe skin disease characterized by redness and inflammation. People with this disease experience thicker, uneven skin on their noses, which can take on a yellowish tint. This doesn't look very aesthetically pleasing, as the nose becomes potato-like and sometimes severely deformed.
Chickenpox/varicella
Chickenpox is caused by the herpes virus. Symptoms include a blistering rash and fever.
