The number of people with diabetes in the adult population has more than doubled to over 347 million worldwide over the past three decades.

This is stated in a study of specialists from Harvard University, as well as the Imperial College of London.

Experts attributed one of the reasons for the increase in the disease to an increase in the number of people suffering from obesity. Among countries with high rates of diabetes are Cape Verde, Samoa, Saudi Arabia, Papua New Guinea, USA.

Earlier specialists of the Institute of Cardiovascular Research at the Free University of Amsterdam came to the conclusion that people who are obese and who are diagnosed with diabetes at the same time will be able to cure it with surgical operations for weight reduction.
