The DiCaprio Foundation will donate 15 million to environmental projects
Last reviewed: 02.07.2025

At the World Economic Forum, which took place in Switzerland, more than 15 million dollars were donated to various environmental projects from the Leonardo DiCaprio environmental fund, the actor himself announced this during his speech at the Crystal Award ceremony.
During his speech, DiCaprio expressed his concern about the rapid disappearance of ancient glaciers (a fact that became known to the actor while filming a documentary about the changing balance of our planet due to the climate crisis).
According to Leonardo, the greed of oil, gas and coal corporations must not be allowed to become a determining factor for the future of all mankind. All those who have a financial interest in the further development of systems that destroy our planet have done everything they can to prevent the facts indicating climate change due to the activities of certain enterprises from becoming public knowledge.
The actor noted that the financial assistance provided by his foundation goes to support projects that increase protected areas, both on water and on land, help indigenous people resist corporate encroachment on their lands, and protect endangered species.
DiCaprio noted that the total donation amount will be divided into several parts, which will go to various organizations promoting various environmental projects.
It is worth noting that over the course of the existence of DiCaprio's environmental foundation, more than $30 million has been donated.
Recently, the actor has been increasingly speaking out about those who are most vulnerable to the climate change that is happening on our planet. At the Golden Globes for Best Actor for The Revenant last week, DiCaprio said he wanted to share his award with the Native Americans featured in the film, as well as indigenous people around the world. According to the actor, now is the time to acknowledge history, protect the land from corporate interests and exploiters, and now is the time to hear the voice of the planet and protect it for our children and grandchildren.
Leonardo DiCaprio founded the environmental foundation in 1998. During the foundation's existence, financial assistance was provided to more than 65 organizations, many environmental projects in California were supported, and in addition, DiCaprio's team actively promotes environmental campaigns on its own website.
It is worth noting that Leonardo's words do not diverge from his actions - the actor prefers to drive not a luxury car, but an eco-car Toyota Prius, which is considered quite modest by Hollywood standards.
Toyota Prius is equipped with a hybrid power plant - an electric motor and a gasoline engine, working alternately depending on the situation, due to which the car consumes a little more than 3 liters of fuel per 100 km / 4. According to some information, there are two such cars in the garage of the Hollywood actor. The actor also purchased an apartment in the Riverhouse complex, which uses solar energy, according to him, this complex clearly shows the availability of eco-projects in housing construction.
