The Geological Survey of Canada presented a report in which a huge geothermal potential for the production of electricity in the territory of the state was declared.

As it turned out, reserves from geothermal sources exceed one million times the current needs.

Ecological consequences in the development of the geothermal industry are not as great as in the development of other energy sectors.

The authors of the report said that in the near future geothermal plants will be able to displace other expensive technologies for electricity production.

Scientists already now recommend starting to develop about a hundred geothermal projects. Calculations have shown that the delivery of geothermal energy will compete with the cost of transporting coal for 15 years.

To note, in the US, geothermal energy is developing very rapidly. Only one state West Virginia produced 18 GW. At present, preparations are under way for the implementation of two hundred new projects that will give the country another 7 GW.

Recall that the leader of geothermal energy is Iceland. This country completely satisfies the need for electricity with the help of hydro and geothermal energy.
