Beach vacation: how to entertain yourself?
Last reviewed: 01.07.2025
Many people love beach holidays, but even they often suffer from the fact that the beach can be, to put it mildly, boring... What can you do there?
It's good if you came to the beach with a group of friends, or at least just the two of you. Then you can, at a minimum, traditionally play cards, checkers or mahjong, lounging on sun loungers, and at a maximum, play ball, water polo or even Cossacks and robbers. The most important thing in a beach holiday is not to get sunburned and do not forget to drink water often.
By the way, regarding the sun: keep in mind that even if the sunscreen packaging says it is “waterproof,” this does not mean that sweat will not wash it off: alas, it will! Therefore, when playing active games on the beach, do not forget to renew the layer of cream at least once an hour. Better – immediately after swimming in the sea or river. Apply the cream only to dry skin, otherwise it will slide off your shoulders and shoulder blades in a matter of minutes.
Many avid beach volleyball players often complain that their face, shoulders, chest and arms get badly sunburned during this leisure activity, but their legs don't get a tan at all. Alas, ideally the torso and legs should be "browned" separately. During strong sun (from about 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) it is worth playing in a long-sleeved T-shirt, while applying a cream with a medium protection level (8-12 SPF) to your legs. But in the morning or evening hours of beach recreation, you can expose the upper part of your body to the sun.
If you still prefer to have fun lying down, do not forget to regularly "turn over" and crawl into the dense shade of an umbrella from time to time: otherwise, you can get heat stroke. It is also worth going for a swim at least once every half hour - cool water normalizes the vascular reaction. While you are lying down, play (if you have someone) cities, names or very popular home games-quizzes like Alias or Activity. Alone, you can, of course, just read, or you can collect nearby pebbles, shells and sticks and put together a mosaic near the sun lounger. You can dig a hole in the sand and make a "refrigerator" for a bottle of water in it. You can sit by the water and, like in childhood, dig a "canal" with a chain of pools. You can also make "installations" from piles of sand and water and photograph them - well, at least with a phone. Those who have a child will find it morally easier to settle down by the water with a bucket and molds - borrow a couple from your own child and play to your heart's content.
This year, a new trendy beach entertainment has appeared that not only helps you get a good tan, but also make new acquaintances and tone up your figure: beach races along the water's edge. Where there are long sandy beaches, several teams gather and, at the signal of a volunteer judge, run along the very edge of the water. The winner is treated to a cocktail, and the slowest one acts as a judge in the next race.
