Pharmacodynamics

The substance yohimbine is an effective means of enhancing potency and is an alkaloid preparation obtained from the bark of an African tree plant.

The principle of action of Yohimbine hydrochloride is explained by the process of selective blocking of α²-adrenoreceptors. The drug increases the central adrenalin metabolism, activating adrenergic nerve cells in the central nervous system, which provokes the development of a psychostimulating effect and exacerbation of the reaction. There is an opinion that the drug affects the serotonergic, dopaminergic, cholinergic system of nervous innervation.

It has been proven experimentally that Yohimbine hydrochloride stimulates sexual desire and stabilizes sexual function lost due to stressful situations, and restores erectile dysfunction.

The therapeutic effect is explained by the drug's effect on the central nervous system. The effect may also be associated with the expansion of the genital blood vessels and improved blood circulation in the tissues.

Periodic decreases in the effectiveness of Yohimbine hydrochloride during the second to third week of treatment may be due to the accumulation of the active product 11-hydroxyyohimbine.

Pharmacokinetics

Yohimbine hydrochloride is fully absorbed in the digestive system within 60 minutes. The maximum content of the substance in the bloodstream is observed after 45-75 minutes.

The first pass of the drug is through the liver. The active substance does not accumulate in the tissues and fluids of the body.

Distribution in tissues is always uniform. In blood serum, 82% of the active component binds to protein, and only a small amount of the drug is found in the intercellular fluid.

Metabolic transformation of Yohimbine hydrochloride occurs in and outside the liver. Two types of metabolites have been found - the more active is 11-hydroxyyohimbine, and the less active is 10-hydroxyyohimbine.

The half-life of a single dose of the drug is from 25 minutes to 2 ½ hours. With long-term treatment, Yohimbine hydrochloride is excreted over a period of 60 minutes to 8 hours.
