Vagiklin - an antimicrobial and bactericidal agent, which is actively used in gynecological practice.
Indications Vagiklin
The drug is used to treat bacterial vaginosis and other infectious gynecological diseases, the causative agent of which is sensitive to Vagiklin. The agent is also used for the antimicrobial treatment of the vagina before the onset of labor.
Release form
The drug Vagiklin is made in the form of soft vaginal capsules, each of which contains active substances clindamycin and clotrimazole for 100 mg.
Silicone oil, white wax, gelatin, titanium dioxide, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, propyl parahydroxybenzoate and sorbitol are presented as concomitant substances.

Pharmacodynamics
The active substances of the drug Vagiklin are clindamycin (lincosamide antibiotic) and clotrimazole (an imidazole derivative, an antifungal drug). The combination of these drugs can prevent the growth of yeast-like fungi, which can develop under the action of clindamycin. This semisynthetic antibiotic inhibits the production of bacterial proteins, affecting their ribosomes and affecting the initiation of the protein chain. Although this antimicrobial agent does not show activity in a laboratory study, in a living organism it is instantly subjected to an ion exchange reaction, at which a substance capable of destroying bacteria is formed.
The antibiotic is active against a large number of gram-positive and gram-negative anaerobic infections, as well as gram-positive aerobic bacteria. It is effective when exposed to microorganisms that can cause the development of bacterial vaginosis.
The second active substance - clotrimazole - is a synthetic antifungal and antitrichomonal drug, an imidazole derivative. The action of this drug is aimed at inhibiting the production of ergosterol, which is necessary to create a fungal cell membrane. Due to this, the permeability of the membrane is disturbed, which provokes further dissolution of the cell.
Clotrimazole also increases the permeability of phospholipid liposome capsules, reduces the total number of ribosomes. Thanks to the preparation, hydrogen peroxide accumulates in the cell of the fungus, contributing to its destruction.
Clotrimazole adversely affects yeast-like fungi, dermatophytes, streptococcal and staphylococcal infection, Trichomonas.

Pharmacokinetics
With intravaginal use of the drug for three days, about 30% undergoes systemic absorption.
The systemic effect of the drug for intravaginal application is much weaker than with oral or injection administration.
Active substances undergo metabolism in the liver and are excreted from the body with a fecal mass.
Dosing and administration
The drug Vagiklin is used intravaginally. The capsule is inserted into the depth of the vagina, it is more comfortable to do this in a supine position with knees bent at the knees. Apply one intravaginal capsule at night, during the week. If necessary, the doctor may prescribe an additional course of treatment.
You can not use the drug in the period of menstruation.
For antibacterial treatment of the vagina before the onset of labor, the agent is used once or twice.

Use Vagiklin during pregnancy
The drug is used during pregnancy in the second and third trimester, but only in those cases where the expected effect of the application will be commensurately greater than the potential danger to the unborn child. During the carrying of the baby, as well as during lactation, the drug is used only with the appointment of a doctor and under its strict supervision and supervision.
Contraindications
Absolute contraindications to the use of the drug Vagiklin are hypersensitivity of the organism to the components of the drug, the first trimester of pregnancy.
When treating the drug should not have sex (even in a condom), and use tampons and perform douching.
This drug is not used during menstruation.
It is not recommended to use the drug (but can be reviewed by the treating doctor) in the presence of venereal diseases, with an irregular menstrual cycle, bleeding from the vagina of unexplained etiology, ulcerative lesions of the vulva, urination disorders, fever, dyspeptic disorders, in childhood.

Intra-vaginal capsules of Vagiklin may cause the following side effects:

- inflammatory process in the kidneys;
- pain throughout the body;
- lowering of pressure;
- digestive disorders;
- itching of the skin;
- burning in the vagina;
- headache.

The drug does not affect the speed of the reaction, so its use does not affect the ability to drive the vehicle.

Overdose

Interactions with other drugs
Here are some data on the interaction of Vagiklin when used with other drugs:
- clindamycin may increase the drug effect of drugs blocking muscle innervation;
- application of the drug together with nystatin reduces the effectiveness of clotrimazole;
- propyl oxybenzoic acid increases the antimicrobial effect of the drug.
Storage conditions
Capsules can be stored under dry cool conditions, it is possible in the refrigerator, away from children's access.
