Transcranial micropolarization of the brain (TKMP) is a kind of therapy based on a continuous effect on some brain structures through an electric current of small force. TKMP was developed by scientists from the Institute of Experimental Medicine in Leningrad. At the moment this procedure is carried out in some medical institutions of different countries for the therapeutic impact on patients of any age.

There are such procedures as transcranial and transvertebral micro-polarization of the brain (TCMP and TBMP). TVMP is carried out with respect to the spinal cord, while the brain is involved in TCMP.

Indications for the procedure

This method of therapy can be used for patients with pathologies of the nervous system, such as:

  • hyperactivity;
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD);
  • tics and neurosis-like pathologies;
  • psychosomatic diseases;
  • speech pathology in patients of childhood;
  • craniocerebral trauma, their complications
  • epilepsy (therapy is not carried out in all centers, as there are disputes about the advisability of such therapy for epilepsy);
  • cerebral palsy (cerebral palsy);
  • psychoemotional diseases;
  • delay in psycho-neurological development in children;
  • organic lesions of the central nervous system;
  • depression, fears;
  • enuresis;
  • aggression;
  • encopresis;
  • diseases of the optic nerve;
  • neuroinfections;
  • hearing loss of the sensorineural type;
  • asthenic syndrome;
  • headache;
  • the transformation of the brain in connection with age.

Preparation

Transcranial micropolarization to a child does not differ from a similar procedure for an adult.

Before the procedure, you should be examined by an appropriate specialist who will write out the direction. It can be a speech therapist, psychotherapist or psychiatrist, neurologist or physiotherapist.

First, an EEG (electroencephalography) should be performed to assess the performance of the brain and its damage. This study, when passing the course of treatment, is performed repeatedly to observe the effectiveness of therapy in dynamics.

At possible indications the doctor can direct the patient on carrying out of procedure.

Technique of the transcranial microarray of the brain

TKMP is performed with the aid of a device for transcranial micropolarization. Electrodes are connected to the apparatus, which fixes a special helmet in the correct position. After fixing the electrodes, the specialist selects the required parameters and starts the device. After starting, it starts to act on the brain with a permanent stream of electric current, which does not exceed the power of its own processes in the brain and is calculated in quantities of up to 1 mA. Thus, there is no aggressive stimulation on the brain, which takes place in other methods of treatment with electricity.

The TCMP session lasts from half an hour to 50 minutes. The patient is allowed to do his own business during the procedure. It can be either personal affairs (for example, reading a book), and additional procedures in complex therapy (for example, lessons with a speech therapist or rehabilitologist).

This type of treatment is allowed with a drug dream. It is also allowed to apply the TCMT method during a stay on artificial ventilation.

Transcranial micropolarization can be used as an auxiliary therapy for various pathologies in children and adult patients, and is also used as an independent therapeutic method. The scheme of procedures is assigned individually and depends on the disease itself, the affected area of the brain and other factors. However, in all cases, one procedure will not bring the expected result. It is necessary to undergo a course of treatment consisting of at least 10 sessions. Recommendations can be given for carrying out additional measures of general body massage, speech therapy massage, sessions with a psychologist, physiotherapy exercises and sessions with a speech therapist. To fix the effect, you should repeat the course in 5-6 months.

Contraindications to the procedure

Contraindications for CTMP are:

  • brain tumors (malignant);
  • diseases of the cardiovascular system in severe stages;
  • not the whole skin on the head;
  • the presence in the cranium of foreign objects;
  • illness in acute form or exacerbation of chronic diseases of various etiologies, when the body temperature is higher than normal, as well as connective tissue diseases of a systemic nature;
  • on the areas of the head where electrodes are supposed to be connected, tumors, pigmentation, rashes are located;
  • individual increased sensitivity to electric current.

Isolate some conditions in which it is inappropriate to conduct TCMP due to low efficiency. However, sometimes specialists designate transcranial micro-polarization, since it can not harm these patient groups, but gives a small chance of positive dynamics. Among such pathologies:

  • psychiatric illness in severe form;
  • mental retardation;
  • autism;
  • Down syndrome;
  • other genetic diseases.

During the passage of the therapeutic course, it is prohibited to:

  • take psychotropic medications, in particular nootropics (TCMP is a full-fledged replacement for nootropic drugs);
  • to pass the course of acupuncture;
  • undergo a course of vibration stimulation;
  • undergo an electromyostimulation course.

Consequences after the procedure

The actions that TCMT has on the patient's body are divided into:

  • local (tissue) reduction of inflammation, size of affected areas and edema due to a positive effect on the nutrition of brain tissue
  • a system electric current directed to the brain, contributes to a change in the functional state of its neurons. Thus, the regulation by the brain of various functions is restored by improving the interaction of various structures of the brain and its nerve cells.

In patients as a result of the course, positive changes are observed:

  • with focal brain diseases, as a result of strokes and craniocerebral injuries, the affected area is significantly reduced, the functions impaired due to the development of pathology recover faster
  • with speech or mental developmental delays in children, ADHD improves sleep, general emotional state, memory functions, sharpens attention, reduces impulsiveness, develops speech, the child becomes more assiduous and learnable, his level of social adaptation increases
  • disappear convulsions, hyperkinesis

Transcranial micropolarization should be performed about twice a year to obtain the most positive result or more often according to the prescription of the doctor (in case the patient's condition does not improve). After the first procedure, the effect of it is often invisible, although some patients notice changes after the first session. Often positive dynamics begins to occur around the middle of the course, and peak severity at the end of treatment and within 1-2 months after.

Also, there are no special rules for leaving after therapy sessions. The procedure is painless and the patient does not need additional care.

Complications after the procedure

Transcranial micro-polarization of the brain has no side effects and does not lead to complications. The patient can be of any age and gender.

The procedure is absolutely painless and has no risks. In this regard, feedback about this form of therapy is positive. With a clear implementation of the expert's recommendations regarding the duration of the course and repetitions, the most positive results are observed.
