Release form

Release form: the drug is available in the form of gelatin capsules of 200 mg and 500 mg, the contents of the capsules are finely granulated powder.

Pharmacodynamics

The hepatoprotective effect of Tavamin is based on the complex effect of the essential branched alpha-amino acids included in its composition - valine, leucine, isoleucine, as well as 2-aminoethanesulfonic acid (taurine).

Valine ensures nitrogen metabolism in the body and is necessary for normal muscle metabolism and regeneration of damaged tissues. Leucine, as an essential component of protein synthesis and a source of energy, ensures the restoration of all body tissues, and also stimulates the synthesis of somatotropin (growth hormone) and slightly reduces blood sugar levels. Isoleucine also participates in protein synthesis, regeneration of damaged tissues, hemoglobin production and regulation of blood sugar levels.

Taurine, by regulating the intracellular exchange of potassium, sodium and magnesium ions, has an antioxidant and regenerating effect, and also promotes the production of bile acids, which ensure the digestion of fats.

Thus, due to the combined action of the components, Tavamin activates metabolic processes in the liver and helps to normalize its functioning.

Pharmacokinetics

After oral administration, Tavamin is absorbed in the stomach and enters the body tissues, mainly skeletal muscles, fatty tissues and liver. The highest concentration in the blood is leucine, almost half of which is distributed in the internal organs. The time to reach the maximum concentration (Tmax) of the drug is 45-50 minutes, and the half-life is about 6 hours.

More than half of leucine undergoes complete transformation, and its metabolites are eliminated with exhaled carbon dioxide. The remaining amino acids are broken down into glucose and ketone bodies synthesized by the liver, the metabolites are excreted from the body with urine. Two-thirds of taurine is excreted unchanged by the kidneys (with urine).

Dosing and administration

The method of administration of the drug Tavamin is oral, after meals (the capsules should be washed down with water). The standard dose is from 0.5 g to 1 g per day.

The recommended maximum duration of the course of treatment is no more than three weeks. Repeated administration of Tavamin is possible after a two-week break.

Use Tavamine during pregnancy

The use of Tavamin during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not recommended.

Contraindications

Among the officially declared contraindications to the use of Tavamin is individual hypersensitivity to the substances included in the drug. However, it is known that drugs containing leucine and taurine are contraindicated for use before reaching the age of 18.

Side effects Tavamine

According to the instructions, when using Tavamin, digestive system disorders (dyspepsia) are possible, as well as allergic reactions in the form of urticaria and skin itching.

However, it should be borne in mind that the use of dietary supplements with valine, leucine and isoleucine can lead to an increase in valine levels, which is accompanied by side effects such as sensitivity disorders (paresthesia). And too high a level of leucine in the body can cause hypoglycemia and excess ammonia.

Overdose

There is no information regarding drug overdose.

Interactions with other drugs

The instructions for the drug note that no interactions between Tavamin and other drugs have been identified. However, it should be taken into account that the sulfur-containing amino acid taurine, present in the composition of this drug, can enhance the effect of cardiac glycosides on changes in the strength of heart contractions.

In addition, taurine enhances the effect of drugs that lower blood cholesterol levels, anticoagulants (reducing blood clotting), as well as drugs used to lower high blood pressure and high blood sugar levels.
