Since Semax has two dosages, its indications for therapeutic treatment differ.

Semax 0.1%:

General:

• To increase the stress resistance parameter during intense work moments;
• To reduce emotional stress.

For persons under eighteen years of age:

• Adaptation (in kindergarten, school period);
• Hyperactivity;
• Decreased attention, ability to perceive and remember various information.

In ophthalmology:

• glaucoma;

• Cognitive impairments, as well as astheno-neurotic disorders;
• Chronic cerebrovascular accidents;
• Ischemic attacks.

In neurosurgery:

• Previous surgical treatment of the brain.

In gerontology:

Release form

The drug exists in two forms. These are bottles, only in one case the stopper has the form of a pipette, and in the second - a dropper. At the same time, they also have the same volume - 3 ml, but a different percentage of the drug: 0.1% and 1%. Each bottle is supplemented with instructions and is in a cardboard package.

Pharmacodynamics

Semax is characterized by several mechanisms of action on the central nervous system:

1. Neurometabolic: manifests itself even when using the drug in a small dose, while increasing attentiveness. The drug stimulates memory development, helps with learning. And also improves the strengthening of the memory trace. In addition, the body quickly gets used to such conditions as: oxygen starvation, anesthesia and cerebral ischemia. By stimulating cholinergic neurons, Semax, in certain brain structures, increases the intensity of the hydrolytic enzyme, which belongs to the esterase group.

2. Neuroprotective: by triggering local inflammation and disrupting the activity of trophic factors, Semax thereby affects the processes of delayed neuronal death. By reducing the level of glucose and oxygen, Semax has a neurotropic effect on the cholinergic group. It is very strong, comparable to the nerve growth factor. In addition, the drug, already at the gene level, triggers the NGF compound and their difference. Also, due to the effect on trigger molecular mechanisms, normalizing the balance of cytokines and increasing the level of factors that reduce inflammation, Semax activates the synthesis of SOD, reduces the level of cGMP and causes inhibition of LPO.

3. Antioxidant and antihypoxic: With a gradual increase in dosage, Semax, without reducing its neurometabolic action, begins to exhibit antioxidant, angioprotective and antihypotoxic effects. All this has a positive effect on the human body's adaptation to oxygen starvation. Posthyperventilation EEG effects, the cause of which lies in the compensatory decrease in cerebral blood flow.

When administered intranasally, Semax begins to show activity after four minutes and acts for 20-24 hours. This phenomenon is explained by degradation, which occurs sequentially. Therefore, the neuropeptide does not lose its enzymes, but retains them in its fragments.

The drug does not have a local irritant effect, as well as teratogenic, embryotoxic and mutagenic properties. Semax does not cause allergies and is low toxic when taken once or for a long time.

Pharmacokinetics

The drug has simple pharcokinetics. Getting on the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx, it is absorbed almost instantly. Bioavailability is about seventy percent. Then Semak, seeping through the semi-permeable barrier between the blood and nervous tissue, is distributed throughout all organs. Then, after it gets into the circulatory system and tissues, biological disintegration into individual amino acids occurs.

Dosing and administration

The medicine is taken intranasally.

To do this, you need to perform a number of actions:

1. The tip of the pipette must be removed.

2. Fill the entire capacity of the pipette. To do this, turn the bottle upside down and tap it with your index finger.

3. Then, lightly pressing on the wide part of the dropper, drip the required number of drops.

Doses:

Nasal drops Semax 0.1%:

One drop is equal to 50 mcg of the medicinal substance. The dose for one time is administered at the rate of 3-30 mcg/kg. This is approximately 200 to 2000 mcg (2-3 drops in each nasal cavity). The daily dose should not exceed 500-5000 mcg.

If you need to administer an additional number of drops, thereby increasing the dosage, you should wait a period of ten to fifteen minutes.

Typically, the medication is used for three to five days. But if necessary, the treatment can be extended to fourteen days.

1. In case of pathological processes in the optic nerve, the duration of therapy will be 7-10 days. In this case, the daily dose will be 600-900 mcg. This is instillation of two or three drops in one or the other nasal passage per day. The medicine can also be used by introducing ions in a hospital.

2. Children should use Semax twice a day, one to two drops for the nose in each nasal cavity. The dose for one day of treatment will be 20-400 mcg. The duration of use of the medicine is one month.

Nasal drops Semax 1%:

One drop contains approximately 500 mcg of active substance.

1. Moderate stroke. The medicine is used three to four times a day, keeping an interval of 4 hours. Two to three drops are instilled into each nasal passage at once (4-6 drops). The dose per day should not exceed 12-24 drops (6000-12000 mcg).

2. Severe stroke. The single dosage is increased to three to four drops in both nasal passages. Apply after a period of 2.5 to 3 hours up to five times a day (24 to 40 drops).

The duration of treatment usually does not exceed ten days.

Use Semaxa during pregnancy

Gestation and breastfeeding periods are contraindications for the use of Semax.

Contraindications

You should not use Semax nasal drops in the following cases:

• bearing a child;
• lactation;
• if the child is not yet five years old;
• anxiety disorders;
• acute psychoses;
• history of seizures.

Negative actions

There may be a slight irritating effect on the nasal mucosa if the drops are used for a long period of time.

Overdose

When conducting studies with increasing single doses of the drug, no cases of overdose were observed.

Interactions with other drugs

Since the drug is quickly absorbed and enters the bloodstream, and then quickly breaks down, it does not have time to enter the gastrointestinal tract. This explains the absence of incompatible interactions with other medications. It is only worth noting that due to the intranasal method of using Semax, it should not be used with various vasoconstrictor drugs.
