Ozerlik is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic with a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity. Manufacturer - Kusum Healthcare (India). Other trade names: Gatifloxacin, Gatimak, Gatibakt, Gatispan, Bigaflon, and others.

Indications Ozerlik

Ozerlik is intended for the treatment of exacerbations of bronchitis, pneumonia, lung abscess, chronic otitis, sinusitis; chronic urological diseases of bacterial etiology (cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis); infectious lesions of different localization, including sepsis.

The drug can be used for infection and inflammation of the cornea and the mucous membrane of the eye. And also in case of ineffectiveness of means against pulmonary tuberculosis.

Release form

Form release: tablets of 200 and 400 mg.

Pharmacodynamics

Active substance Ozerlik-gatifloxacin-8-methoxyfluoroquinolone - has a bactericidal action against such gram-negative and gram-positive pathogens as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, Haemophillus influenzae, Haemophilias parainfluenzae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Klebsiella oxytoca, Moraxella catarrhalis, Escherichia coli, Enterobacter cloacae, Enterobacter aerogenes, Proteus vulgaris, Morganella morganii, Bacteroides distasonis, etc., including those resistant to macrolides and beta-lactam antibiotics.

By blocking the bacterial DNA-topoisomerase enzyme, the active substance of the drug interferes with DNA replication and fission of microorganisms, causing their death.

Pharmacokinetics

Ozerlik penetrates most tissues and biological fluids; bioavailability is almost 96%; the maximum concentration of the drug in the blood is noted on average 90 minutes after taking the therapeutic dose; about 20% of the active substance binds to blood plasma proteins.

The drug undergoes biotransfomation in the liver, 80% of gatifloxacin from the body is excreted by the kidneys (with urine), the elimination half-life ranges from 7 to 14-15 hours.

Dosing and administration

Ozerlik should be taken inside. The standard dose is 400 mg once a day. The duration of the course of treatment is determined by the attending physician depending on the specific disease and condition of the patient.

Use Ozerlik during pregnancy

Use during pregnancy, like most preparations of the group of fluoroquinolones, is prohibited because of the high risk of teratogenic effects on the fetus.

Contraindications

Contraindications to the use of this drug are individual hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolone antibiotics, diabetes mellitus, hypercalcemia, severe liver failure, children's age (under 18 years).

Side effects Ozerlik

The most common side effects of Ozerlik include: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, intestinal disorders; headache, dizziness; swelling of the face and mucous membranes; visual impairment; insomnia or increased drowsiness; increased blood pressure, violation of heart rate; cramps, muscle pains and tendon ruptures; lowering of blood sugar, liver failure.

Overdose

Ozerlik expressed in increasing side effects, as well as lengthening the QT interval. The latter creates a risk of life-threatening heart rhythm disturbances. In case of an overdose, gastric lavage and symptomatic treatment are performed.

Interactions with other drugs

Due to the lack of experience in clinical use of Ozerlik in combination with drugs from other pharmacological groups and the lack of research on their interaction, manufacturers do not recommend prescribing Ozerlik simultaneously with H2 antagonists of histamine, antiarrhythmics, tricyclic antidepressants and hypoglycemic drugs taken orally.
