Medicinal herbs for allergies
Medical expert of the article
Last reviewed: 06.07.2025
An allergy manifests itself as an increased sensitivity of the body to certain environmental factors (for example, to pollen, dust, certain chemicals and medications, as well as to certain foods).
Allergies are always individual, are not inherited, and may not manifest themselves for a long time (some people know about their allergies from childhood, and some find out in adulthood or even middle age). Often, when an allergy occurs, the first thing that comes to mind is: "What folk remedies should I use?" (after all, pills often have a negative effect on the liver, kidneys, and pancreas), or more simply: "What herbs should I drink for allergies?"

Treating Dust Allergy with Herbs
To treat dust allergies you will need: crushed St. John's wort (4 tablespoons), centaury (5 tablespoons), crushed dandelion root (3 tablespoons), dry horsetail (2 tablespoons), corn silk (1 tablespoon), chamomile (1 tablespoon), rose hips (4 tablespoons).
All the ingredients of the collection must be poured with 300 grams of water and left to brew for 8 hours (it is better to brew in the evening, then drink in the morning). In the morning, bring the infusion to a boil, but do not boil for a long time, since the beneficial properties of the herbs will be lost, and then strain the resulting infusion, pour into a glass jar, cover with a lid and wrap in a warm blanket or rug (preferably woolen). Take the infusion every day in the morning and evening before meals. A complete recovery from dust allergy usually occurs after a month.
Herbs for skin allergies
Herbs are also great for treating skin allergies. Dermatological allergies are characterized by itching and redness of the skin, eczema-like rashes, peeling skin, blisters, and dry skin. Such allergies can be caused by chemical household and cosmetic products, as well as food products and cold.
Herbs for skin allergies are often wild plants (you can take both fresh shoots and dried herbs). You will need: buckthorn root (2 tablespoons), grated chicory root (1 tablespoon), grated dandelion root (1 tablespoon), marsh cinquefoil leaves (2 tablespoons), fennel fruits (2 tablespoons). The resulting mixture must be poured with one glass (250 grams) of boiling water, then boiled for another half hour and then left to infuse for 2-3 hours. Take half a glass of the decoction 2-3 times a day before meals.
It should be noted that the collection of herbs for allergies must be carried out in clean, non-polluted areas, or the necessary elements of the collection must be purchased at the pharmacy, because all pharmacy herbs and ready-made collections undergo radiological control.
Herbs for allergies for children have found wide application
Herbs can be used to treat allergies even in the smallest children, using herbal baths for bathing the baby. Such baths not only relieve allergies, but also calm the baby, providing him with a favorable psycho-emotional background. It is recommended to do the baths 2-3 days in a row (preferably in the evening, before the child goes to bed), but if there is no improvement, you should consult a pediatrician or a pediatric dermatologist.
Traditional herbs for treating children are oregano, succession and calendula. Often, even using several herbs together is effective. To prepare a medicinal bath, take 3 spoons of herbs (succession, calendula or oregano), pour 1 liter of boiling water and simmer for another 15 minutes. Add the resulting decoction to the baby's bath (keep in mind that the total water temperature in the bath should be 26-27 C).
Herbal Treatment for Allergies
What herbs help with allergies? Answer: always different. There is no single herb-panacea. Medicinal herbs for the treatment of allergies vary depending on the type of allergy. Let's look at the most basic types of allergies and give several herbal recipes for their cure.
Chamomile
Chamomile is a traditional remedy against dermatitis. To treat allergies, chamomile is infused and added to baths, and also used as a poultice. To prepare the infusion, you will need: 3 tablespoons of chamomile, pour boiling water over it, wait until the petals become a homogeneous mass. Then, the resulting mixture must be placed on a clean cloth, and then poultices can be applied to the affected areas of the skin.
For non-dermatological allergies, chamomile will also help: To prepare a tincture for internal use, pour 1 tablespoon of chamomile flowers with a liter of boiling water, wrap up and leave for half an hour. Take 1 tablespoon of the infusion 3 times a day before meals.
Naked licorice
Glyceram is extracted from licorice root, which has a beneficial effect on blood vessels, has an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effect, activates the adrenal glands, and what is very important - is absolutely non-toxic. Glyceram is recommended to be taken in a dose of 0.05 g three times a day half an hour before meals.
Glyceram is also suitable for external use (compresses, lotions). For this, use its 2% emulsion (sold in pharmacies). In case of allergic diseases of the upper respiratory tract (allergic bronchitis and sinusitis), glyceram is good as an expectorant (use 20 drops 3 times a day half an hour before meals).
Yarrow
Yarrow has a unique anti-allergic property. A decoction of its stems (dry or live) is excellent for rheumatism and scrofula, while having an anti-allergic effect.
To prepare an infusion from the stems of common yarrow, you will need: 2 tablespoons of dried grass (can be purchased at a pharmacy) pour half a liter of boiling water and then leave for an hour or two (the jar with the infusion can be wrapped to speed up the infusion process). The resulting infusion must be filtered through gauze or a narrow sieve. Take 1 tablespoon three times a day half an hour before meals.
Succession
The succession plant has long been used to treat skin and non-skin allergies in children. Both decoction and baths are used internally, as well as compresses and lotions. If the child has diathesis, we recommend preparing a succession decoction for bathing the baby. To do this, you will need: pour 3 tablespoons of the pharmacy succession plant with a liter of boiling water and let it brew for an hour. Next, add it to the baby's bath (remember that the water temperature in the bath should not exceed 27 degrees Celsius!)
In order to get rid of allergies, you will have to drink a fresh infusion of the herb of the succession for a year or even several years. It is recommended to brew the succession as a simple tea, drinking it after meals, as tea and instead of coffee. If, when brewing, the succession has colored the water in a golden-straw color, it means that the succession is of high quality and has not yet lost its beneficial properties. If the infusion turns out to be a cloudy green color, it is not suitable for consumption.
To completely and reliably get rid of allergies, it is necessary to drink only fresh infusion of the herb of the succession for several years in a row. It is brewed like tea and used instead of tea or coffee. Let it brew for twenty minutes, drink without dosage. The golden color of the infusion indicates its good quality. A cloudy or green color of the infusion means that the succession is not suitable for consumption. The infusion of the succession can only be taken fresh: do not preserve or prepare "in reserve". It is also important to know that the succession in briquettes is not suitable for making infusions, but can only be used for baths.
Peppermint
Peppermint has a calming and antiseptic effect. It helps well with non-skin allergies. To prepare the infusion, you can take both dry stems and leaves of peppermint, and "live", because live ones contain a great many microelements and, most importantly, priceless essential oil. To prepare the infusion, you will need: a tablespoon of peppermint herb must be poured with a glass of boiling water, then - insist for half an hour (better - wrapped in a warm blanket). It is recommended to use the tincture 1 tablespoon 3 times a day half an hour before each meal.
Red clover
Red clover juice is very useful for allergic conjunctivitis. The juice is squeezed from fresh inflorescences of red clover. It is recommended to put juice in your eyes in the morning and evening. After rinsing them with warm water. Important: clover for squeezing juice from it should be collected in radiologically clean areas.
Viola tricolor
Wild pansy (or pansy) copes well with skin allergies. Wild pansy tinctures are used for lotions and for adding to baths. For local skin irritations and itching, it is recommended to make lotions from wild pansy infusion on the affected areas of the skin. To prepare the infusion, you will need: 3 tablespoons of dry wild pansy inflorescences, pour a liter of boiling water and let it brew for an hour and a half.
Wild rosemary
Ledum tincture is used for skin diseases and skin itching. Add the tincture to baths or make local lotions. To prepare a Ledum tincture, you will need: pour 3 tablespoons of dry Ledum herb with a liter of boiling water and let it brew for an hour and a half. To prepare a bath, add a liter of Ledum tincture to a bath of warm and clean water. Ledum tincture has proven itself to be an excellent antipruritic. For local skin itching, it is recommended to make lotions from Ledum tincture (morning and evening before bed).
Dead nettle
Dead nettle copes well with allergic rashes caused by eczema or furunculosis. Also, dead nettle infusion has proven itself as a blood purifier. To prepare the infusion, you will need: 3 tablespoons of dry dead nettle flowers, pour a liter of water and leave for an hour or two, after wrapping the vessel with the infusion. After the infusion, strain the broth. Use chilled, half a glass half an hour before each meal.
Celandine
Celandine has anti-inflammatory and healing properties. Celandine infusion can be used both internally and externally to heal local wounds. To prepare the infusion, you will need: pour 2 tablespoons of dry celandine herb with half a liter of boiling water and leave for 3-4 hours (it is better to wrap it in a blanket). It is recommended to take 100 grams of infusion 2-3 times a day before each meal.

Finely chop the shoots of viburnum. 2 tablespoons of which must be poured with half a liter of boiling water, boil for 20 minutes, then insist for 1-1.5 hours. It is recommended to take half a glass of infusion 2 times a day 30 minutes before meals. Within a couple of days from the start of treatment, the allergy should subside.
Pour 50 grams of stone bramble root (bramble) with a liter of boiling water and boil for a quarter of an hour. Let stand, strain and pour into a bath with water temperature of 36-37°C. Take baths daily at any time for two and a half weeks. After a week's break, repeat the course. It is used for allergic skin diseases.

Celery should be infused for 3-4 hours. It is recommended to take the infusion 50 grams 3 times a day half an hour before each meal.

After infusing, strain the infusion and then squeeze it out. It is recommended to take the resulting infusion 25 drops at a time, dissolving them in half a glass of water. This tincture should be taken 3 times a day for a week. If the allergy does not subside within a week, you should immediately consult a doctor.
In addition to tincture, duckweed is also used as a powder. To obtain the powder, dry and well-washed duckweed must be ground in a coffee grinder. The resulting powder can be added to honey, thus rolling honey balls (1 part honey to 1 part duckweed). Honey balls must be taken 1 piece 3 times a day half an hour after each meal.
Peony cultivated
The powder from the peel of the root of the cultivated peony will help to get rid of allergic rhinitis.
You can get rid of a severe runny nose with the help of the powder of the peel of the root of the cultivated peony. The peel must be washed well, dried and ground into powder. It is recommended to take a teaspoon of powder 15 minutes before each meal (3-4 times a day). The children's dose should be half that of an adult. To improve the taste of the powder, it can be taken with honey or jam.
Mumiyo solution
Mumiyo is one of the most effective means of combating allergies. To prepare a mumiyo solution, dissolve 1 gram of the product in one liter of water. Take 100 grams of the solution, washing it down with warm fatty milk. The dose of mumiyo solution for children should be half that of adults. A very effective method. Treatment of allergies in nursing mothers with herbs
Pregnant and lactating women are always a special group of patients. Pregnant and lactating women are always prescribed a special regimen for the use of any medications (for example, antibiotics or hormonal drugs), so herbal treatment is no exception. During pregnancy and lactation, the female body is extremely susceptible to environmental factors and to the food that is consumed. For allergic dermatitis (reddening of the skin up to swelling), it is recommended to use oak bark decoctions for external washing of the skin and compresses. (Pour 5 tablespoons of pharmacy oak bark with a liter of water, boil for 15 minutes and let stand for 2-3 hours; take half a glass of decoction 2 times a day before meals). Oak bark has an excellent antiseptic effect, heals small wounds and soothes the skin. Rose hips and dried calendula inflorescences (marigolds) can be used according to the same principle.
For allergic eczema (inflammation of the outer layers of the skin due to irritants such as sun and cold, or household chemical detergents), doctors advise pregnant and breastfeeding women to use compresses of apple cider vinegar or birch sap (not canned). Apply for 2-3 days - this is the period of time that allergy relief usually occurs. If not, you should urgently consult a therapist or dermatovenerologist.
For dermatological diseases in pregnant and nursing mothers, Kalanchoe juice effectively helps. A tablespoon of fresh plant juice should be diluted with cooled boiled water in a ratio of 1 to 4 and applied to areas with redness and itching.
To relieve itching and scratching of the skin, you can use lotions from tincture of hawthorn, horsetail and red geranium. To prepare the tincture, you need to take one of the suggested plants (hawthorn, horsetail, red geranium), squeeze the juice out of them (from the stems), dilute with a glass of warm boiled water and boil for another 15 minutes. Make lotions on the places of itchy skin.
