Release form

The release is carried out in the form of drops, placed in bottles of a dropper volume of 3 ml. Inside the package contains 1 bottle, as well as special applicators (60 pieces).

Pharmacodynamics

The bimatoprost component is a structural analog of the PG component. It is not known how the drug works, but there are suggestions that the growth of eyelashes is carried out by increasing their number, and in addition, by prolonging the stage of hair follicle growth or the stage of ciliary growth.

Pharmacokinetics

After using the drug in a drop form with a concentration of 0.03%, peak plasma levels are observed after 10 minutes, and after 1.5 hours they decrease to the minimum mark (0.025 ng / ml). The average level of peak plasma indices and AUC values by the 7th and 14th day of drug use was approximately the same (correspondingly, 0.08, and also 0.09 ng × h / ml). There was no significant systemic accumulation of the substance.

The active component is distributed inside the tissues, and the equilibrium level of the distribution volume is 0.67 l / kg. Inside the blood plasma, bimatoprost is mainly contained in the form synthesized with protein. Inside the circulatory system, only 12% of the substance remains free. Most of the bimatoprost enters the bloodstream unchanged. Further, the processes of ethylation, oxidation, and also glucuronization, as a result of which different degradation products are formed.

During IV administration of 6 volunteers of a substance in the amount of 3.12 mg / kg, the peak plasma index was 12.2 ng / ml. The half-life of the component was approximately 45 minutes. The total clearance level of the drug is 1.5 l / h / kg.

Approximately 67% of the drug is excreted through the kidneys, and another 25% with the help of the digestive tract.

Dosing and administration

Drops are used once a day - before bedtime. Before this, you need to remove decorative cosmetics from your face and remove contact lenses (if available). It is required to drip 1 drop of drugs on a special applicator, and then evenly process the skin along the ciliary growth border in the upper eyelid - it is required to conduct the applicator along its edge.

To moisten the upper eyelid in the place of growth of the eyelashes should be only slightly, and the medicine can not flow beyond the boundaries of this line. To avoid excessive moisture, you need to remove excess medicine. The used applicator is immediately discarded, it is again forbidden to apply it. To process the second eyelid, you need to take a new applicator.

When applying the drug Latisse it is forbidden to use other applicators (not those that are included in the package with the medicine) or brush. You can not also treat the lower eyelids. In addition, you need to make sure that the dropper of the bottle with the drops does not come into contact with any surfaces - so that no infection gets into it.

Use of the latisse during pregnancy

During the animal tests, the oral administration of bimatoprost in a dose exceeding that recommended for local use 33-97 times was studied. In such experiments, miscarriages occurred in animals. After using the substance in a dose that exceeds the drug in 41 times, there was a decrease in the period of gestation, the increase in fetal deaths, as well as a decrease in the weight of newborns.

Controlled Latisse tests in the form of drops during pregnancy were not performed.

Animal tests also confirmed that bimatoprost is able to pass into the mother's milk. Therefore, during the use of drugs it is required to refuse breastfeeding.

Contraindications

The main contraindications: children under the age of 18, and with it the presence of intolerance with regard to medicinal components.

Caution is required when using people with aphakia or pseudoafakia, and also with damage to the posterior lens capsule. In addition, it should be used with caution in long-term diabetes, with a high risk of swelling of the macula, increased blood pressure (especially if high diastolic pressure values are observed), high cholesterol, nephropathy, and uveitis (because this disease in this case can progress).
