Causes of the inflammation of the gums in the child

The most common cause of inflammation of the gums in children is associated with non-compliance with oral hygiene: irregular and poor-quality cleaning of teeth leaves them on a plaque, and eventually it leads to the formation of calculus. Inflammation of the gums can also be caused by an infection that falls on the mucous gums of a small child, who continually pulls dirty hands and toys into the mouth.

Inflammation of the gums in the baby often occurs during teething: this is not only a painful process, it can be accompanied by irritation of the gum tissue through which the tooth "gets to the surface", as well as gum injuries - when the baby tries to alleviate his condition with the help of a rattle or proposed mother cracker ...

In children of preschool and school age, gums can become inflamed due to tooth decay with caries (which parents often do not treat on their baby teeth!), Dental abnormalities, due to gum injuries with an incorrect bite, mucous injury during meals (for example, too hot food) . And also because of jammed food between teeth or insufficient saliva production (xerostomia).

However, according to dentists, the key cause of inflammation of the gums in children is insufficient dental care. But this applies, in the first place, acute gingivitis. The chronic form of this inflammatory disease can be a consequence of various infectious diseases, as well as those chronic diseases that children suffer. Among them, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, rheumatism, liver and gall bladder pathologies, nephropathy, tuberculosis and diabetes mellitus. An important factor in the development of gum disease in children is a deficiency in the body of vitamin C and a decrease in immunity.

Diagnostics of the inflammation of the gums in the child

Diagnosis of gum inflammation in children is performed by a doctor when examining the oral cavity - based on the condition of the mucosa and soft gum tissue. If non-mineralized deposits on the teeth (microbial deposit, soft coating, food residues) and supragingival tartar are found, the specialist - if there is redness, swelling and bleeding when probing in the gums - makes the diagnosis: acute catarrhal gingivitis.

If a bacterial infection is suspected, the dentist can take scrapings from the inflamed areas of the gum.
