Finisterter contains the component finasteride, which is an artificial 4-azoteroid compound. It specifically slows down the effect of type 2 testosterone-5-α-reductase (an intracellular enzyme of the prostate that transforms testosterone into a higher androgen active, called dihydrotestosterone).
Therapy contributes to a significant decrease in the total number of urological signs associated with prostatic hyperplasia, achieving a stable regression of prostate size, together with an increase in the maximum rate of urine outflow and improvement in clinical manifestations. In the case of continuous administration, a clinically significant effect is observed after 3 months.
Indications Finisterra
It is used for prostate hyperplasia, which has a benign character, to obtain such effects:
- reducing the enlarged prostate in size, reducing the symptoms caused by adenoma, and improving urinary outflow;
- reducing the likelihood of acute urinary retention and the need for surgery (prostatectomy and transurethral resection of the prostate).
Release form
The release of drugs is made in the form of tablets, in the amount of 14 pieces inside the cell bundle; In the box - 2 such packs.
Pharmacodynamics
When slowing down the transformation of testosterone in the element dihydrotestosterone, the drug effectively reduces the performance of this hormone inside the blood and prostate tissues (within 24 hours from the time of use). This causes a decrease in prostate size and a decrease in dysuric signs associated with hypertrophy.
The drug is synthesized with androgen endings and does not affect the structure of the hypothalamus-pituitary.
Pharmacokinetics
When administered orally, the level of bioavailability is approximately 63%. Intra-plasma Cmax values are noted after 1-2 hours from the moment of introduction; this indicator is on average equal to 37 ng / l. Approximately 90% of finasteride is synthesized inside the blood plasma with protein.
The total clearance values are approximately 165 ml per minute, and the distribution volume is 76 liters. The drug can overcome the BBB, but its level inside the cerebrospinal fluid does not reach significant volumes. In the case of the use of drugs in a dose of 5 mg per day, the rate of finasteride inside the sperm will be 0-20 ng / l.
The term half-life is 6 hours. About 40% is excreted in the form of metabolic elements through the kidneys, and about 60% more - through the intestines. Inside the urine, a mainly metabolic component with a monocarboxyl group is recorded.
In the case of repeated use, there is a slow accumulation of the drug inside the body: after the introduction of the drug for 17 days in 5 mg portions per day, the rate inside the blood plasma is approximately 50% higher than the values observed with a single dose.
After oral administration, the drug effectively reduces the rate of dihydrotestosterone inside the blood plasma and prostate tissue during the first day. But in order to obtain the necessary clinical result, it is necessary to apply the medicine in a period of several months.
After daily administration of the drug inside in portions of 5 mg per day, the plasma level is 8-10 ng / ml, remaining within these limits for a long period of time.
In older men, the rate of excretion of finasteride drops slightly. In persons older than 70 years, the term half-life of drugs is approximately 8 hours, and in people aged 18-60 years - 6 hours. But this factor is not a contraindication for the use of drugs in the elderly.

Use Finisterra during pregnancy
The drug is not used to treat women.
Women who are in the childbearing period, as well as pregnant women cannot be contacted with tablets or drugs that have been crushed or have lost their integrity. Due to the ability of substances inhibiting the activity of type 2 5-α-reductase, to slow down the conversion of testosterone to the component dihydrotestosterone, such drugs, among which Finister, can lead to problems in the development of the genitalia of the male fetus. With the penetration of the drug into the body of a pregnant woman, there is a risk of negative effects in relation to the formation and development of the fetus.
There is no information regarding the volume of finasteride that is absorbed into the body in case of contact with a non-complete tablet or ejaculate of a man who takes the medicine. Women who are planning to conceive or are already pregnant should avoid this kind of contact in order to eliminate the risk of fetal damage.
When breastfeeding should follow the above recommendations. No data is available on whether finasteride is excreted in breast milk. A nursing woman should use condoms when in contact with a man taking the medication.
Side effects Finisterra
Finistère is tolerated by patients without complications. Only occasionally such side effects appear:
- manifestations associated with reproductive function: disorders of sexual activity (the frequency of these problems decreases during therapy), pain affecting the testicles, impotence, weakening of the libido, decrease in the number of ejaculate, disorder of ejaculation, and an increase in the size of the mammary glands and their engorgement;
- allergy symptoms: signs of severe intolerance, including urticaria, itching, rashes and swelling of the face and lips.
Storage conditions
Finistère should be kept in a place closed to children. Temperature indicators - not more than 25 ° С.
Shelf life
Finister is allowed to apply within the 36-month period from the date of manufacture of the drug product.
Application for children
The drug is not used in pediatrics, because there are no data regarding drug efficacy and safety for children.
