Indications Ferrogradumet

It is used for anemia of iron deficiency, as a therapeutic or prophylactic drug:

• a variety of bleeding, including metrorrhagia with menorrhagia, bleeding from the nose, bleeding of a hemorrhoidal nature, or developing during childbirth, and in addition, due to perforated ulcer;
• increased need for iron in women during lactation or pregnancy;
• a diet in which there is iron deficiency;

Pharmacodynamics

Ferrogradumet contains a large amount of iron sulphate inside a special filler (a plastic matrix called Gradumet). The process of release of the active element is controlled and gradually, after which the substance is absorbed taking into account the needs of the body. The process occurs with the minimization of gastric damage.

Iron sulphate is spent on the binding processes of gemin proteins (among them myoglobin with hemoglobin, etc.), as well as nonheminic enzymes (this includes transferrin with ferritin, etc.).

Pharmacokinetics

The absorption of the element from the gastrointestinal tract is not fully: 10% in a healthy person, and up to 30% in people with iron deficiency. After penetration into the blood, the substance is synthesized with protein-transfer ferrite, which must deliver iron into the bone marrow and incorporate it into the composition of hemoglobin. The half-life of iron under the guise of sulfate is about 6 hours.

Dosing and administration

Ferrogradumet is required to be taken orally, on an empty stomach, in the morning about half an hour before breakfast. The tablets are swallowed whole and washed down with clean plain water; chewing them is prohibited.

The size of the daily portion for an adult - a maximum of 1-2 tablets. It is necessary to use the medicine for several months. After stabilization of impaired indicators, treatment should be continued for another 2 months - in order to replenish iron stores.

Contraindications

Main contraindications:

• hemolytic or aplastic form of anemia;
• megaloblastic anemia in the decompensation phase;
• sideroblastic anemia, as well as anemia, developing on the background of leukemia;
• pigment cirrhosis.

Caution is required when using drugs in people with enteritis, a peptic ulcer, and ulcerative colitis.

Occasionally, medication leads to disorders in the gastrointestinal tract: nausea, pain in the epigastric region, vomiting, constipation, blackening of feces and diarrhea.

Overdose

Poisoning with the drug can lead to vomiting, cyanosis, pallor, a feeling of fatigue or drowsiness, nausea, diarrhea with tar-like or green stools, and in addition to the development of a shock.

With very severe intoxication (the use of the dosage, component 180-300 mg / kg) may develop collapse or death. In this case, emergency medical care is required. At the same time, the following procedures are carried out:

• blocking the absorption of iron inside the gastrointestinal tract;
• peritoneum x-rays to determine the number of tablets remaining there;
• removing the drug through gastric lavage (using a large probe with a 0.9% NaCl solution), taking a laxative or vomiting. In extreme cases, surgery may be performed;
• determination of serum values of iron inside the bloodstream, and in addition, the implementation of chelate treatment using deferoxamine (if required).

The hemodialysis procedure for overdose medication is ineffective.

Interactions with other drugs

Substances that inhibit the absorption of iron: tea and coffee (must be taken at least with a 1-hour interval), and in addition milk or eggs (taken with an interval of at least 1-2 hours), penicillamine, tetracycline, and drugs containing chloramphenicol and antacids ( application with at least 2-3 hour intervals).

Drugs of iron have an impact on the absorption, as well as reduce the performance of some anti-infective drugs from the group of quinolones: norfloxacin, ciprofloxacin, and ofloxacin. It is required to observe a minimum of 2-hour interval between the reception of Ferrograddumet and any of these means.
