  • Streptococci - penicillinase-producing and penicillinase-non-producing strains.
  • Bacillus subtilis and mycoides.
  • Neisseria meningitidis.
  • Proteus (indole-positive and indole-negative species).
  • Salmonella.
  • Haemophilus influenzae and parainfluenzae (penicillinase-producing and penicillinase-non-producing strains, including those resistant to ampicillin).

Pharmacokinetics

Pharmacokinetics of Fagocef allows you to find out the features of the drug's behavior in the body. That is, the metabolism of the drug, its absorption and the period of excretion and distribution. After use, the drug is absorbed by the body within five minutes. Thus, with a single administration of an ampoule of the drug in 1000 mg, the concentration of the drug in the blood reaches 100 mcg / ml. The bactericidal concentration of the drug in the blood lasts for twelve hours.

70% of the drug is excreted in the urine. The remaining part of the drug leaves the body with bile and in the form of metabolites. On average, the half-life of the drug does not exceed one hour. If the drug is prescribed to elderly patients or patients with renal failure, the excretion time of the drug is doubled. The drug can also be prescribed to newborns, in which case the excretion time reaches 1.5 hours, and for newborn babies, this time reaches 6.5 hours.

Dosing and administration

The method of administration and dosage of the drug are prescribed by a doctor and depend on the infectious disease being treated. Before starting treatment, it is necessary to check the body's reactions to the drug. Thus, all patients who are prescribed fagocef undergo a skin test for sensitivity to lidocaine. The drug is administered intravenously or intramuscularly. As a rule, for an average dose of the drug, 1000 mg of fagocef and 4 ml of sterile water for injection are dissolved. The drug is administered using a syringe or a dropper for 3-6 minutes.

  • For children - for babies up to 7 days of life, the drug is administered at 50 mg / kg of body weight, every 12 hours. For newborns who are one month old, the drug is administered at 50 mg per kg of weight every 8 hours. For children from one year to 12 years weighing less than 50 kg, the drug is prescribed in a dose of 50 to 180 mg / kg. The exact dose depends on the disease. The drug is administered during the day, the number of injections can be from 4 to 6. The maximum dose of the drug should not exceed 12 g, that is, 200 mg per kg per day.
  • For adults, the drug is taken every 12 hours, 102 g. The main condition for taking the drug is uncomplicated infectious diseases. If the patient has a moderate disease, the drug is used every 8 hours, and the dose is 1-2 g. In case of severe infectious diseases, phagocef is taken up to four times a day with a dose of 2 g. Overdose

An overdose of the drug causes a number of complications and rather unpleasant reactions of the body. The most common diagnosis that is made in case of an overdose of phagocef is reversible encephalopathy. There is no antidote that would protect the body from an overdose; in this case, symptomatic therapy is used. Hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis are not effective in case of an overdose.

Interactions with other drugs

Interactions of Fagocef with other drugs are possible during complex treatment. If the patient undergoes simultaneous treatment of diseases using potent diuretics, aminoglycosides or polymyxin, the risk of developing reversible renal failure increases.

When treating the body using phagocef and cefotaxime, aminoglycoside solutions cannot be used. The drugs must be administered separately. With the simultaneous administration of nifedipine and phagocef, the bioavailability of the drug increases by approximately 70%. Probenecid helps block the tubular secretion of phagocef and increases the half-life of the drug.
