Faktiv is a drug from the antibiotic spectrum. One of the main active ingredients is gemifloxacin. Faktiv belongs to the group of fluoroquinolones. It is an antibacterial drug that has bactericidal activity - destroying various forms of bacteria in the body, which contributes to the treatment process. The drug's effect extends to the following groups of microorganisms: gram-positive and gram-negative, anaerobic and aerobic, atypical. Due to this, treatment can occur for any disease, regardless of the group of pathogens.

Another important active ingredient, gemifloxacin, will help you overcome resistance that may have developed when taking other antibiotics.

The drug Faktiv has a second, non-patented name – Gemifloxacin (named after the active ingredient).

Indications Factive

The medication should be used in the event of infectious and inflammatory diseases caused by sensitivity to gemifloxacin by other microorganisms. Indications for taking the medication apply to the treatment of the following diseases: complications or exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, acute pneumonia caused by polyserosinous microbes, as well as acute sinusitis.

The medication is prohibited for use by patients under 18 years of age.

Release form

The medicinal drug Faktiv is available in the form of pills and tablets. The pills are shaped like an elongated oval, covered with a white or grayish film on top. Each tablet contains a dosage of the medicinal drug of 320 milligrams. Also, the pill has dividing stripes on each side.

On the modern pharmaceutical market it is available for sale only in cardboard packages of 5 or 7 tablets.

Pharmacodynamics

Since gemifloxacin is a drug against microbes, a representative of the fluoroquinolone group. The substance has a strong effect on harmful bacteria and various groups of microorganisms. The active substance of Fakiva disrupts those harmful processes that inhibit the formation of enzymes that are necessary for the growth of beneficial bacteria in the body. Gemifloxacin is highly related to bacterial topoisomerases II (DNA gyrase) and IV.

The mechanism of action on various fluoroquinolones, including gemifloxacin, differs from various beta-lactam antibiotics.
In the pharmacodynamics of Fakiva, no cross-action was noted between gemifloxacin and other various antibiotics from other groups.
The substance gemifloxacin is active in the fight against a large number of microorganisms that arise in the body with various diseases.

Pharmacokinetics

Pharmacokinetics of the drug Faktiv has a principle of linear action when it enters the body. The drug is taken orally into the body at a dose of 40 to 640 mg.
Faktiv is quickly absorbed into the gastrointestinal tract.
The time interval, the amount of food intake can in no way affect the pharmacokinetics of Faktiv, so these tablets are allowed regardless of the time of food intake.
When taken repeatedly, Faktiv binds to plasma. The percentage that binds does not depend on various indicators, for example - age.
The concentration of the active substance gemifloxacin in the bronchi is higher than in blood plasma, so it quickly penetrates into the lung tissue.
In small quantities, the drug can accumulate in the liver. Three hours after administration, the drug prevails over the metabolites in the blood plasma.
Faktiv is excreted through the intestines and with urine.
At the moment, there are no data on the pharmacokinetics in children under 18 years of age.

Dosing and administration

Faktiv is taken orally, without chewing, with a sufficient amount of water. Depending on the disease, the method of administration and the dose of the drug in the course of treatment can be as long as five days or increase to a week. The average recommended dose of the drug is one tablet (320 mg) per day, regardless of meal time.

In case of pneumonia, Faktiv is used once a day for a week. In case of exacerbation of bronchial disease symptoms, the course lasts five days. The same amount of time is spent treating acute sinusitis.

But in case of possible kidney disease and other types of disorders of the genitourinary system, possible renal failure, the dosage is reduced exactly by half - 160 mg once a day.

Faktiv is not recommended for use by children under the age of eighteen. Also avoid taking the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Use Factive during pregnancy

The use of Faktiv during pregnancy and lactation is strictly prohibited. At the moment, there is no information on studies of taking the drug Faktiv during pregnancy.

If there is an urgent need to take the drug during lactation, it is necessary to stop breastfeeding until the full course of treatment is completed.

Contraindications

You should stop taking Faktiv if you are sensitive or hypersensitive to gemifloxacin and various fluoroquinolones. For those who have a risk of prolongation of the interval on the electrocardiogram, you should reduce or temporarily stop taking the drug. Also, you should avoid taking the drug if you have tendon damage that occurred as a result of using various fluoroquinolones.

It is necessary to take Faktiv with a high degree of caution and under strict supervision of the attending physician for the following groups:

  • Those who may be at risk of developing arrhythmia;
  • Those who have an increased development of hemolytic reaction;
  • For those who take various steroids;
  • For those who suffer from epilepsy and who are prone to seizures;
  • For those who have symptoms of hypokalemia and hypomagnesemia.

Side effects Factive

When treated with the drug Faktiv, the following side effects may occur:

  • Manifestation of skin allergies, namely itching of the skin;
  • Attacks of nausea or diarrhea, vomiting reflexes, attacks of flatulence are possible. In rare cases - attacks of acute liver failure;
  • Quite rarely, due to the action of one of the components of the drug, side effects can manifest as attacks of anxiety;
  • In rare cases, disturbances in taste sensations and perception of the surrounding world are possible.

In isolated cases, symptoms of leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, pancytopenia and other hematological disorders may appear. Crystalluria and attacks of pain that occur due to renal failure, a sharp increase in sodium content or a decrease in potassium are also rare.

A decrease in calcium content is possible, the content of neutrophils in the blood decreases, and the level of liver transaminases increases.

Overdose

An overdose of the drug is detected in case of increased side effects. In this case, symptomatic treatment is necessary, since a specific antidote to counteract Faktiv is unknown.

At the first signs of an overdose of the drug, it is necessary to wash the stomach - by drinking a large amount of water or inducing vomiting, to cleanse the stomach of the remainder of the drug. In the future, it is necessary to continue to drink water in large quantities and be under the constant supervision of the attending physician.

In particularly severe cases, hemodialysis (for deep blood purification in the body) may be required.

Interactions with other drugs

When antacids and gemifloxacins are used together, the levels of various microelements, such as aluminum and sulfate, may decrease. Therefore, it is recommended to use antacids three or four hours before taking Faktiv.

When taken simultaneously with sucralfate, the bioavailability of gemifloxacin may decrease. Therefore, the intake of these drugs should be separated by at least two hours.

If oral contraceptives are taken, a slight decrease in the bioavailability of gemifloxacin is possible.

Faktiv has no effect on the action of levonorgestrel contraceptives.

Storage conditions

It is necessary to store in a dark, dry, well-ventilated place. The storage temperature should not exceed 25°C. Storage conditions of the drug Faktiv should provide full protection from children and pets. If the drug is not used immediately after purchase, it is recommended not to open the packaging and blisters, so as not to reduce the shelf life of the drug.

Shelf life

The shelf life of Faktiv is three years from the date of manufacture. If the storage conditions are observed correctly, you can take the drug without fear until the expiration date.
