Pharmacodynamics

Chloroxylenol is a phenol derivative and has a disinfectant and antiseptic effect. It is used externally.

In addition, chloroxylenol, even in small concentrations, has bactericidal activity against a wide range of gram-positive and -negative microbes.

Pharmacokinetics

After treating the skin with the drug, less than 50% of the chloroxylenol portion is absorbed into the blood, quickly synthesizing there with protein (this figure is 85-90%), and then metabolizing (by 10-15%) with transformation into a catechin or benzyl alcohol structure.

It has not yet been possible to determine in which organ the substance is metabolized.

Excretion of the majority of the substance occurs with urine – in the form of sulfate and glucuronic conjugates in a ratio of 1:6. The half-life of the drug is about 2-3 hours.
