Last reviewed: 03.07.2025

Dalacin C phosphate is a systemic antibacterial drug used for infectious diseases.
Dalacin C phosphate may provoke the activity of bacteria that are not sensitive to this group of antibiotics, especially yeast-like microorganisms. In addition, it is recommended to monitor liver and kidney function during long-term use.

Indications Dalacin C phosphate
The medication is effective against infectious diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to the drug (diseases of the ENT organs, lower respiratory tract, infectious skin lesions, purulent wounds, joint infections, bone infections, infections of the female reproductive system, etc.).
Dalacin C phosphate is effective against inflammation of the inner lining of the heart.
Studies have shown that the drug is effective against oral infections (periodontitis, periodontal abscess), toxoplasmosis encephalitis in AIDS (as part of complex therapy), pneumonia, and malaria.
In addition, the drug is used to prevent inflammatory diseases of the heart, inflammation of the peritoneum and the development of infection after surgery.

Pharmacodynamics
The medicine suppresses the ability of bacteria to reproduce and destroys them. The main active ingredient of Dalacin C phosphate is clindamycin (a semi-synthetic antibacterial agent).
Some types of microorganisms develop resistance to the active substance of the drug quite quickly (mainly strains resistant to erythromycin).
The drug is also active against gram-negative microorganisms (bacteroids, fusobacteria, etc.), non-spore-forming gram-positive anaerobic bacteria (propionibacteria, eubacteria, actinomycetes), gram-positive microaerophilic and anaerobic cocci.
Clostridia are more likely to develop resistance to clindamycin than other anaerobic microorganisms. Most of the bacteria in this genus, especially Clostridia perfringens, are susceptible to clindamycin, but some bacteria are resistant to the drug.
Pharmacokinetics
Dalacin C phosphate is almost completely absorbed in the body. The maximum value of clindamycin in the blood serum is achieved on average after 45 minutes.
After oral administration, clindamycin is 90% absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.
Long-term use does not cause accumulation of clindamycin in the body.
For the purification of clindamycin from the blood, extrarenal and artificial methods of blood purification are ineffective.
With increasing dosage, an increase in the concentration of the main active substance is observed in the blood. With a normal dosage, 6 hours after administration, a concentration in the blood serum is observed that exceeds the minimum value capable of suppressing the vital activity of most microorganisms sensitive to clindamycin.
Clindamycin is distributed throughout body tissues and fluids (including bone).
The half-life from the body is on average about 2.5 hours (if the kidneys are not functioning properly, the half-life may increase).
Excretion occurs mainly in the form of inactive metabolites, approximately 10% of the active substance is excreted by the kidneys, about 4% - in the feces.
Even in cases of inflammation, concentrations of clindamycin in the cerebrospinal fluid are insignificant.
After taking Dalacin C phosphate capsules in elderly patients, the half-life may increase to an average of 4 hours.
The degree of absorption of the drug does not depend on the patient's age or food intake.
Dosing and administration
Dalacin C phosphate is prescribed by a specialist depending on the type and severity of the disease, the patient's condition, and the sensitivity of microorganisms to the medication.
On average, the duration of treatment is about 7 – 10 days.
Adults are usually prescribed up to 1800 mg of clindamycin per day. It is recommended to divide the daily dose into several doses. In order not to provoke irritation of the digestive tract, the capsules should be washed down with one glass of water.
In childhood (from six years old) up to 25 mg per day is prescribed in several doses.
No dosage adjustment is required for elderly patients or those with impaired renal or hepatic function.
Use Dalacin C phosphate during pregnancy
Dalacin C phosphate overcomes the placental barrier. After long-term use of the drug, the active substance in the amniotic fluid reaches 30% of the level in the blood plasma in the woman's body. The drug is prescribed to pregnant women only in case of extreme necessity.
Contraindications
Dalacin C phosphate is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity of the body to any component of the drug.
The medication is not prescribed to children under 6 years of age, or in cases of muscle damage (myasthenia).

Side effects Dalacin C phosphate
Dalacin C phosphate may lead to changes in blood composition (increased platelet levels, decreased leukocytes, etc.).
Anaphylactic shock, abdominal pain, vomiting, upset stomach, inflammation of the esophagus, liver dysfunction, skin rashes, itching of the skin, inflammation of the vagina, severe damage to the mucous membranes and skin (Lyell's syndrome) are also possible.

Interactions with other drugs
Dalacin C phosphate is incompatible with ampicillin, barbiturates, calcium gluconate, aminophylline, magnesium sulfate, erythromycin.
When taking Dalacin C phosphate and antidiarrheal drugs at the same time, acute intestinal inflammation may develop.
Clindamycin is able to block neuromuscular signals and increases the therapeutic effect of muscle relaxants, therefore, the drug is prescribed with caution to patients undergoing treatment with muscle relaxants.
Shelf life
Dalacin C phosphati is valid for two years from the date of manufacture. If the integrity of the packaging or storage conditions are compromised, the medication loses its effectiveness.
