Release form
The release is made in tablets of 2.5 or 5 mg inside blister strips - in the amount of 10 pieces. The pack contains 3 blister packs.
Pharmacodynamics
The medicine contains amlodipine (S) isomer of levorotatory type, which is related to dihydropyridine derivatives and includes 2 stereomers (however, only amlodipine of levorotatory nature has medicinal effect). The therapeutic effect of the medicine is due to its ability to block Ca channels, which prevents the penetration of calcium ions into the cells of blood vessels and heart muscles. Due to this, the tone of the vascular walls decreases inside the smooth muscle cells, resulting in a decrease in blood pressure (hypotensive effect).
In addition, Azomex has a strong antianginal effect, due to the effect of amlodipine on the cardiovascular system (the peripheral vessels dilate, thereby reducing their resistance). Reducing peripheral vascular resistance allows for a reduction in afterload, as well as the load on the heart muscle along with its oxygen demand. The effect on the smooth muscle walls of blood vessels leads to a reduction in spasm of the heart vessels and stabilization of coronary blood flow.
The drug does not have a pronounced effect on fat and carbohydrate metabolism, which allows it to be prescribed to people with gout, bronchial asthma, and diabetes.
Pharmacokinetics
Azomex has good absorption in the gastrointestinal tract, and food intake does not affect its absorption rates. The level of bioavailability of the drug is approximately 70-80%. It reaches medicinally significant values after 10-12 hours. Since the drug has a slow onset of action, it does not lead to a sharp decrease in blood pressure. Stable drug levels in the blood are observed after 7-8 days.
During biotransformation, inactive metabolic products are formed.
Excretion occurs in urine and the half-life is approximately 35-50 hours.
Dosing and administration
Azomex should be taken without regard to food intake. The tablet should be swallowed whole, washed down with plain water.
To treat coronary heart disease and reduce high blood pressure, it is necessary to take the drug in an initial dose of 2.5-5 mg. If necessary, this dose can be increased to 10 mg (single dose per day). It is necessary to take the entire dose at one time.
Use Azomexa during pregnancy
Azomex should not be prescribed to pregnant women.
Contraindications
Among the contraindications:
- the presence of hypersensitivity to the drug;
- decreased blood pressure values;
- breastfeeding;
- children under 18 years of age.

Side effects Azomexa
The use of the drug may cause the following side effects: local and general signs of allergy, headaches, insomnia, depression, drowsiness. In addition, nausea, diarrhea and bloating, as well as vomiting and dry mouth may sometimes occur. Dizziness, increased heart rate, decreased blood pressure may develop. In addition, rash, erythema, exanthema or itching are observed, increased urination, myalgia, arthralgia, asthenia and convulsions are noted.
Interactions with other drugs
The drug can be safely combined with thiazide-type diuretics, α- or β-adrenergic blockers, as well as with ACE inhibitors, long-acting nitrates, NSAIDs, nitroglycerin and oral antidiabetic agents.
Azomex has no significant effect on the medicinal properties of cyclosporine.
Bioavailability of the drug may increase when grapefruit juice is consumed. This may potentiate the antihypertensive properties of the drug.

Reviews
Azomex generally receives positive reviews for its medicinal effect. Calcium antagonists are highly effective and have been used for treatment for over 30 years. This drug has many advantages because it contains the amlodipine S-isomer, which has a higher medicinal effectiveness, which allows for a lower dosage and a lower likelihood of developing side effects.
The active medicinal S-form has a longer half-life and has a long-term antihypertensive effect, so a single use is enough to control blood pressure. There is no need to adjust the dosage when prescribing to people with renal dysfunction. Long-term use of the drug does not cause tolerance. Reviews show that the drug can be used in monotherapy or in combination with other antianginal drugs (nitrates or β-blockers) - and in all cases it has a positive effect. It is also noted that the drug almost does not cause side effects.
