ATC classification
Active ingredients
Pharmacological group
Pharmachologic effect
Indications Azicin
It is used to eliminate the following violations:
- diseases of the urogenital system;
- STDs;
- pathologies affecting the ENT system and respiratory organs (such as otitis, sinusitis, bronchitis with laryngitis, and in addition pharyngitis and pneumonia);
- diseases of the soft tissue area (including folliculitis, infected dermatitis, impetigo, wound lesions and erysipelas);
- tick-borne borreliosis;
- destruction of the Helicobacter pylori microbe.
Release form
The product is released in capsules, in the amount of 6 pieces inside a blister pack. In a box - 1 blister with capsules.
Pharmacodynamics
The active ingredient of the medicine is azithromycin, a semi-synthetic component, a representative of the category of macrolide antibiotics. It has high acid resistance compared to other macrolides. It has a bacteriostatic effect, but in relation to certain strains it demonstrates a bactericidal effect. Azithromycin slows down protein binding inside microbial cells, thereby suppressing their reproduction.
The bacteriostatic effect develops in relation to gram-positive and gram-negative aerobes (including those that produce β-lactamases).
Enterobacteria, pseudomonads and acinetobacters are resistant to the active element. In addition, the drug does not affect bacteria that are resistant to erythromycin.
Pharmacokinetics
After oral administration, it is well absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. Taking it with food reduces absorption and bioavailability. It is not subject to changes under the influence of the acidic gastric environment. Peak values in plasma are recorded after 2-3 hours.
Protein synthesis rate is up to 50%. The highest concentrations of the active element are observed in the exudate of the middle ear, tonsils, and also in the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract and urogenital system. The drug can accumulate in lysosomes and then be released by phagocytosis. Metabolic processes are carried out in the liver.
Excretion occurs with bile. About 6% of the substance is excreted with urine. The half-life is 35-50 hours, and in some patients it reaches 80 hours.
Dosing and administration
Take orally, on an empty stomach (120 minutes after a meal or 60 minutes before). Swallow the capsule whole and then wash it down with water. The portion sizes are prescribed by the doctor, based on the patient's condition.
To eliminate pathologies in the respiratory tract, as well as the ENT system, it is necessary to take 0.5 g of the medicine once a day for 3 days.
When treating skin infections, 0.5 g of Azitsin is used on the first day of the course, and then 0.25 g is required once a day. On average, therapy lasts 5 days.
To treat STDs, a single dose of 1 g of medication is required.
When eliminating an ulcer combined with Helicobacter pylori, it is necessary to drink 1 g of the drug per day for 3 days.
During therapy for tick-borne borreliosis, 1 g of the drug is taken on the first day, and then 0.5 g daily for another 4 days. For the entire course, 3 g of Azitsin should be taken.

Use Azicin during pregnancy
It is prohibited to use Azitsin during pregnancy.
Contraindications
Main contraindications:
- the presence of intolerance to macrolide drugs;
- children under 3 years of age;
- severe stages of liver dysfunction;
- children weighing less than 25 kg;
- lactation period.
Caution is required when prescribing to individuals with severe renal failure.
Side effects Azicin
Use of the drug may cause the development of the following side effects:
- dizziness and headaches, insomnia and a feeling of strong excitability, as well as tremors in the limbs and tachycardia;
- epigastric pain, loss of appetite, nausea, bowel disturbances, bloating, vomiting, and in addition, increased activity of liver transaminases;
- eosinophilia or neutropenia;
- rashes, hives, and itching;
- nephritis or vaginitis;
- candidiasis in the oral mucosa.
Overdose
Intoxication develops in the form of stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea and nausea. Headaches, hearing disorders and cholestatic hepatitis may also occur.
There is no specific antidote. Gastric lavage, sorbent intake, and symptomatic procedures are performed. If severe intoxication is observed, extracorporeal hemosorption should be performed.
Interactions with other drugs
Combined use with antacids inhibits the absorption of azithromycin, which is why it is necessary to separate the use of these drugs in time (at least a 2-hour interval).
Azicine does not affect the efficacy and pharmacokinetic parameters of drugs whose metabolism occurs with the participation of the hemoprotein P450 system (such as midazolam, theophylline with digoxin, as well as ergot alkaloids and bromocriptine).
Storage conditions
Azitsin must be kept in standard conditions for medicines. Temperature – no higher than 25°C.

Shelf life
Azitsin can be used for 2 years from the date of manufacture of the drug.
Reviews
Azitsin selectively accumulates inside infected tissues with registration of medicinally effective concentrations. Such unique focus on tissues allows the drug to be used once a day and in short courses. Experts believe that such a dosing scheme has high efficiency rates.
The use of drugs is very helpful in the treatment of genitourinary infections that cannot be eliminated with cephalosporins and penicillins.
With an optimal price-quality ratio, as well as a convenient mode of administration and a variety of release forms, the drug is very popular among patients, which they note in their reviews.
It is also worth paying attention to its high level of safety - negative effects are rare, and there is no special interaction with other drugs. It is also important that due to the short-term use, the drug does not affect the microflora of the oral cavity and intestines.
