Agicold Hotmix

Another popular form of production of medicines for the treatment of colds is powders for preparing solutions with different flavors. Adjikold hotmix has an orange flavor and is available in packs of 5, 10 and 50 sachets of 5 g. • Overdose: decreased appetite, pallor of the skin, liver necrosis, nausea and vomiting. A more pronounced toxic effect occurs with a single application of 10-15 g of the drug. In this case, emergency medical care with gastric lavage and monitoring of vital signs is shown.

Pharmacodynamics

Agicold is a combined preparation, as its composition includes several components. Pharmacodynamics is determined by such substances:

  • Paracetamol is an antipyretic and analgesic. Reduces the excitability of the center of thermoregulation of the hypothalamus and is involved in inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins.
  • Phenylephrine hydrochloride is a vasoconstrictor, whose action is aimed at eliminating nasal congestion and decreasing secretions from the sinuses.
  • Caffeine - a stimulant that affects the central nervous system, reduces the feeling of drowsiness and fatigue. Increases mental and physical performance.
  • Chlorpheniramine maleate is a decongestant and antiallergic agent. Its action is aimed at reducing vascular permeability. Removes swelling and redness of the nasal mucosa. Eliminates the symptoms of allergic rhinitis and facilitates nasal breathing.

Pharmacokinetics

The cold remedy begins to act 30 minutes after application, providing an antipyretic and analgesic effect. Pharmacokinetics is expressed by such components:

  • Paracetamol - quickly absorbed from the digestive tract and binds to blood plasma proteins. The maximum concentration in plasma is observed after 1-4 hours. Metabolizes in the liver, forming glucuronide paracetamol sulfate. The metabolic process is associated with a general clearance and a microsomal enzyme system. Penetrates through the placental barrier. Glucuronidation products have nephrotoxic and hepatotoxic properties. The substance is excreted in the form of conjugation products, about 5% is excreted unchanged.
  • Phenylephrine hydrochloride is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, it is metabolized on first passage through the liver with monoamine oxidase in the walls of the intestine. Undergoing biotransformation, it forms sulfated derivatives - phenylephrine 3-O-sulfate. Bioavailability is low, subject to systemic absorption.
  • Chlorpheniramine maleate - completely and quickly absorbed from the digestive tract and spreads through the tissues of the body. About 70% of the substance binds to plasma proteins. The half-life is 8 hours. Metabolizes in the liver. Gradually absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, the maximum concentration in the blood plasma occurs in 3-6 hours. It is excreted in urine, part unchanged and part of the substance in the form of dimethylated metabolites. The rate of excretion is completely dependent on the pH of the urine.
  • Caffeine - quickly absorbed, the maximum concentration in the blood plasma is reached after 5-90 minutes after oral administration. Rapidly destroyed in cells, penetrates through the placental and blood-brain barrier. About 35% is associated with blood plasma proteins. Rapidly metabolizes in the liver, forming metabolites: 1-methyluronic acid, 1-methylxanthine and 7-methylxanthine. All metabolites undergo intensive biotransformation, the elimination period takes about 5 hours. It is excreted by the kidneys.

Dosing and administration

The cold remedy has several forms of release, on which the method of application and dose depends. Adjikold is appointed according to the following schemes:

  • Tablets - adults 2 pcs. 1-4 times a day, for children 1 pc. 1-4 times a day. The course of treatment is 5-7 days.
  • Ointment - is intended for external use and inhalation in rhinitis. A small amount of the drug must be distributed around the neck, back, chest and grind well. After rubbing it is necessary to wrap up and stay warm.
  • Syrup - for children 3-14 years for ½ - 1 teaspoon 3 times a day, for patients over 14 years and adults for 1-2 spoons 3 times a day. Duration of treatment is 14-21 days.
  • Powder for the preparation of the solution - the contents of one sachet should be filled with hot water and mixed until completely dissolved. It is recommended to apply the medicine on one sachet up to 4 times a day. The course of treatment should not exceed 5 days.

Overdose

The medicine should be used in the dosages prescribed by the doctor. Failure to follow the treatment recommendations can cause adverse symptoms. Overdose in most cases is associated with the action of paracetamol. There are bouts of nausea and vomiting, marked paleness of the skin, increased activity of liver transaminases and increased heart rate. To eliminate these reactions, it is necessary to rinse the stomach, take activated charcoal and, if necessary, conduct further symptomatic therapy.

Interactions with other drugs

For rapid and effective treatment of common cold, an integrated approach is recommended. Interactions Adjikold with other drugs should be monitored by the attending physician. This is associated with a high risk of adverse reactions from many organs and systems.

  • The drug is not recommended for taking with other medicines that contain paracetamol.
  • The drug enhances the action of MAO inhibitors, ethanol and sedatives.
  • When used with antidepressants, antipsychopathic, antiparkinsonian and phenothiazine derivatives, the risk of constipation, dry mouth and fluid retention in the body increases.
  • When interacting with glucocorticosteroids, the risk of developing glaucoma increases.
  • Paracetamol slows down the action of diuretics.
  • Chlorpheniramine in combination with MAO inhibitors can cause hypertensive crisis and hyperpyrexia.
  • Tricyclic antidepressants increase their symptomatic effect.
  • Halothane increases the risk of ventricular arrhythmia.
