Claimed effect of glucosamine sulfate

Scientific evidence supports the use of glucosamine sulfate for the treatment of both mild and moderate osteoarthritis of the knee. Its role in the treatment of more severe knee osteoarthritis and osteoarthritis elsewhere in the body is less well defined. Some evidence suggests that the drug had both an analgesic and a disease-modifying effect. The mechanism is unknown but may be related to improved glycosaminoglycan synthesis as a result of the sulfate moiety. Dose: 500 mg orally 3 times daily.

Adverse effects of glucosamine sulfate

Allergy (in patients with shellfish allergy but taking a product containing the corresponding component), stomach upset, fatigue, insomnia, headache, photosensitivity and changes in nails may occur.
