Winter clothes for children should have characteristics that allow the child to move a lot and freely and at the same time not to freeze. This means that it should be loose but warm. What characteristics should winter clothes for children have?
Children's clothing for the street
The most suitable style for children is a sports style. These are jackets, overalls, warm pants, which are great for the cold season. These clothes can be with insulation, for example, with light and voluminous synthetic padding or fleece, which retains heat well. Winter clothes for children are also multi-layered (membrane). Overalls are very convenient for a child, because then you do not need to select a set of jackets and pants by color. The straps of the overalls are very convenient because they can be adjusted to the child's height. The main thing is that the overalls are not too bulky and protect the child well from rain, snow, cold and fog.
What is important for a child's winter clothing?
The design of winter clothing for a child must meet all hygienic requirements. It depends on what it is intended for. For walks, clothing can be warmer, and for sports - such that the child does not sweat in it. The baby's outer winter clothing should fit other, thinner layers of clothing, quite tightly. But at the same time, it should be such that the wind does not blow into the sleeves and bottom of the clothing.
If parents, fearing that their baby will freeze, buy him heavy and thick winter clothes, they will squeeze the blood vessels that are close to the skin of the child. And this will worsen the nutrition of tissues and organs, the blood flow will slow down, the child, instead of warming up, will freeze more. Parents should know that a tight winter jacket can worsen the respiratory processes, especially with active movement of the child, and tight pants or overalls - worsen the processes of the digestive system, the organs of which are located in the abdominal cavity.
Therefore, the cut of children's winter clothing should be comfortable, age-appropriate and allow the child to move freely.
Protection from cold
In winter, clothes should protect the baby primarily from the cold. Therefore, look carefully at what the jacket or jumpsuit is made of (the composition is written on the label). The highest protective properties from the cold are in materials consisting of several layers. Cotton wool, batting, and synthetic padding are lightweight and at the same time thick. They will protect the child from the cold due to their porosity and multi-layered nature. Sheep fur is the warmest - tsigeyka can be 18 mm thick, and full sheepskin - up to 50 mm. Such winter clothes are the warmest.
Even on a winter walk, a child always moves a lot, especially a small one. Parents should know that with active movement, a child produces 3-5 times more thermal energy compared to a calm state. Therefore, the more the child moves, the thinner the jacket should be on him, otherwise the baby will overheat and, having cooled down, will catch a cold.
Therefore, considering that the child may sweat, and it is raining or snowing above, winter clothes should absorb moisture well from the inside and not let it through from the outside, and also dry quickly. Therefore, it is best to buy winter jackets for children from waterproof fabric.
Layering Winter Clothing
It is very good if a child is dressed in several layers of clothing in winter. Firstly, it creates additional warmth, and secondly, it allows air cushions to form between the layers of clothing, so there is a natural ventilation process, the child's skin breathes. But each subsequent layer gives not only additional warmth, but also additional weight to the baby's clothing. Therefore, moderation is good in everything.
It is very important to understand that you should not wrap up your child like a cabbage, because there is an optimal number of layers of clothing. Starting from the third layer of clothing, heat is retained not better, but worse. For example, the second and third layers of children's clothing increase the temperature inside by one and a half degrees, but the third layer and higher increases it by only half a degree. When we reach the 5-6th layer of children's clothing, the heat in them practically does not increase. But all these layers of winter clothing give it additional weight, which the child is forced to carry on himself. This limits his mobility and deprives him of the pleasure of walking.
If you are taking your child to kindergarten or if he/she is indoors, it is advisable to wear several thin layers of clothing.
