Pimafucin is a modern pharmaceutical product developed for use in obstetrics and gynecology to treat thrush at various stages of a woman's life, including during pregnancy. Pimafucin is best used during pregnancy in the form of suppositories (candles). This allows you to achieve maximum effect in a minimum amount of time.

Consists of the active substance - natamycin, which is recognized as a substance with a low degree of toxicity. This makes it possible to successfully overcome the symptoms of thrush, even during pregnancy. This effect is achieved due to the fact that the components of the drug are not capable of absorption through the walls of the stomach and intestines. The skin and mucous membranes also do not have sufficient throughput, which would allow the drug to be absorbed inside. Thus, the main effect of the drug is local. Accordingly, the fetus is not exposed.

Is it possible to take Pimafucin during pregnancy?

There is every reason to say with absolute certainty: yes, Pimafucin can be used during pregnancy. This pharmaceutical product is one of the few products whose use does not have any negative consequences for the body. It can be used without any fears, both during pregnancy and lactation. The effect is purely local, it does not have systemic properties. Accordingly, it cannot affect the fetus. This is confirmed by numerous studies, both domestic and foreign. In addition, many years of practice of its use confirms its safety.

Pharmacodynamics

It has an antifungal (antimycotic) effect. It acts directly on microorganisms statically or lytically, depending on the dosage. With static action, the drug helps to stop the growth and reproduction of microorganisms, due to which their population decreases and the inflammatory process subsides. With lytic action, the drug also affects microorganisms, causing a violation of genetic and metabolic processes in them, which results in the death of the microorganism. This also helps to reduce the inflammatory process.

The causative agent of thrush in most cases is microorganisms of the genus Candida, which are microscopic yeast-like fungi that are representatives of opportunistic microflora. That is, they are contained in every healthy organism as a rule, and form a natural defense. If immunity decreases, as well as due to some other factors, the number of these fungi increases. If their number significantly exceeds the permissible norm, the disease develops.

Therefore, the action of the drug is directed specifically against them. The necessary dosage is selected, which will have a lytic or static effect. The dosage should be selected only by a doctor, since a decrease in the number of these fungi in the body below the normal values also entails negative consequences. Natamycin irreversibly binds to the cell membranes of fungi, the function and structure of which is disrupted, the microorganism dies. Resistance rarely develops.

Pharmacokinetics

Natamycin, which acts as an active substance, has the ability to irreversibly bind to the cell membranes of the pathogen. This leads to the death of the microorganism. It affects not only Candida, but also other microorganisms sensitive to this ingredient. No addiction is observed.

Pimafucin has only a local effect. It has no toxic effect, does not lead to poisoning, even in case of overdose.

Dosing and administration

When conducting systemic therapy, tablets are taken. Dosage - 1 tablet 4 times a day. Duration of treatment is from 7 to 10 days. The dose can be exceeded, since cases of overdose are unknown.

When prescribing suppositories, usually 1 suppository is prescribed daily or every other day. Depending on the form and severity of the disease, one suppository can be used once a week or two weeks. One may need 3-4 suppositories per course, others - several packages.

How often can you use Pimafucin suppositories during pregnancy?

The drug is used until the symptoms of the disease are eliminated. The amount of the drug is individual. It can be used every other day, or several times a week. In any case, the necessary dosage can only be determined by a doctor, based on the test results.

It ensures sterility of insertion and deeper penetration of the product.

Use pimafucine in pregnancy during pregnancy

Pimafucin is described in pharmacological reference books as an antifungal drug that acts against a wide range of microorganisms. It has long been used to treat thrush and andidiasis. Its peculiarity is that it can be used during pregnancy, due to its high safety and lack of impact on the embryo. Many expectant mothers note that the drug has a positive effect on them, and consider it the only possible remedy that saves from the manifestations of thrush.

Doctors tend to use this drug due to the absence of teratogenic effects and due to the fact that it is permitted during pregnancy and lactation. In addition, there is no information confirming a negative effect on the embryo. Most people prefer to use suppositories, which allows them to quickly achieve the desired effect. Only if they are ineffective and the disease progresses is it advisable to resort to using tablets or a combination of drugs.

If we analyze the reviews of patients who took the drug, we can note both positive and negative reviews. The positive aspects of Pimafucin include: effectiveness, rapid achievement of a positive effect, safety. Some women need 1-2 suppositories, while others need several packages for a course of treatment. Many women associate the appearance of thrush with the onset of pregnancy; such cases have not been observed before. It is used at different stages of pregnancy, but most often the need for the drug occurs in the first months. Women with a severe form used suppositories in combination with cream. When the infectious process spreads to internal organs, which was extremely rare, the tablet form was used. In especially severe cases, or with a prolonged illness, complex therapy was prescribed, which included suppositories and tablets.

Usually one or two courses are enough to completely cure. Relapses are rare. Some women note skin pathologies, which can be easily dealt with using the cream. The effect of the cream is noticeable after an hour. Suppositories usually completely eliminate the symptoms of the disease in 6-7 days.

There are also negative reviews. The drug does not work on some women at all. Perhaps this is due to individual resistance, features of the microflora. Despite the safety of the drug and the fact that it can be safely taken throughout pregnancy, some doctors prefer to refrain from prescribing it in the first three months. Some women complain of relapses, suffer throughout the pregnancy, despite taking the drug. They also say that there are suppositories that are also approved for use during pregnancy, and are more effective. Sometimes even an increase in the manifestations of thrush is noted.

Thus, reviews of the drug are very contradictory. There are both positive and negative ones. This indicates individual sensitivity to the drug, which is quite natural. In each specific situation, the result will be different. In any case, before using it, you need to consult a doctor, do not self-medicate under any circumstances. And you need to try it anyway: after all, the drug may be effective and help you to be cured forever.

Pimafucin in the first weeks and early stages of pregnancy

If a woman is in the first week of pregnancy, Pimafucin can be used. It is precisely at this stage that it is most often prescribed, since the first weeks are the most common time for thrush, which is explained by a decrease in immunity. The drug does not interfere with the development of the embryo, does not interfere with the implantation process.

If signs of thrush are detected, you can safely start taking Pimafucin. It is non-toxic and does not have a negative effect on the fetus. The course of treatment is short. Recovery occurs quickly, relapses are rare.

Pimafucin during pregnancy in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd trimester

Pimafucin is completely safe when used in the first trimester of pregnancy.

The drug can be used from the 3rd to the 6th month, since it has only a local effect, due to which it acts effectively and quickly.

If there is such a need, the drug can be used from 6 to 9 months. It is a safe, non-toxic drug. But usually the need for it arises at an earlier stage. Thrush in the 6-9 month is a rare phenomenon, since immunity increases.

Contraindications

Pimafucin has no toxic effect, therefore it has no contraindications, except in cases where there is an individual intolerance to its components.

Side effects pimafucine in pregnancy

Side effects may include nausea and diarrhea. These effects pass fairly quickly and do not require any additional treatment. When applied locally in the form of suppositories, there may be a feeling of discomfort and burning in the genital area. These symptoms also pass fairly quickly without additional intervention.

Discharge and burning after pimafucin during pregnancy

The discharge may increase due to the fact that the suppository located in the vagina melts and flows out. Also, as a result of irritation of the receptors of the mucous membrane, additional stimulation of mucus production occurs.

When inserting the suppository intravaginally or applying the cream to the external genitalia, irritation of the mucous membrane may occur, resulting in burning and itching. This goes away on its own after some time. There is no need to stop treatment, no measures need to be taken.

Overdose

Currently, there are no known cases of overdose. Long-term use of the drug does not entail any side effects, does not affect either the mucous membranes or the skin condition. It does not affect the fetus. There is no toxic effect even when taking a large amount of the drug internally, since it is not absorbed through the intestinal mucosa.

Interactions with other drugs

The drug is compatible with other medications; cross-reactions and mutual neutralization do not occur.

Pimafucin and Utrozhestan during pregnancy

The two drugs are compatible with each other, the main thing is to distribute the order and method of their introduction into the body. There are several options: you can use Utrozhestan intravaginally, and Pimafucin rectally. However, it is necessary to take into account that with this method of administration, the effectiveness of Pimafucin may decrease and the expected results may not be achieved. Or the duration of treatment will be much longer.

The second option is to take Utrozhestan in tablets and administer Pimafucin intravaginally. This option is also not without its drawbacks - Utrozhestan can have a toxic effect on the liver. However, the effectiveness of neither drug is reduced. Utrozhestan has the same effect on the body, both with vaginal and oral administration. Its main task is to deliver progesterone to the body.

The third option is to administer both drugs intravaginally, with a break of at least 2 hours. This is the best option, since the effectiveness does not decrease, there are no side effects or drug interactions. You should not administer two drugs at the same time; you need to take breaks between them.

The drug can be stored for 2 years.

What to do if Pimafucin does not help during pregnancy?

The effect of the drug is individual. Despite the fact that most women during pregnancy are saved from thrush only with the help of this remedy, for some it may be absolutely useless. Everything depends on the individual characteristics of the body, in particular, on the sensitivity of the microflora to the active substance. Resistance can develop if the woman has been taking the drug for a long time, or if the previously prescribed courses were not completed.

Treatment with antibacterial and antifungal drugs has its own characteristics. It is necessary to undergo a full course of treatment, even if the symptoms of the disease no longer bother you and the body is completely healthy. This is due to the fact that the microorganisms against which the drug is aimed can develop resistance over time. A full course is designed to completely kill the pathogen. If you stop using the drug halfway through the course, as soon as the symptoms disappear, the microorganisms may not die completely. They survive and, through natural selection, develop further resistance not only to this drug, but to the entire group of these drugs. Since the microorganisms have not died, after some time they can cause the disease again, but the drug will no longer act on them.

Also, if the drug does not work, you need to check the expiration date. It is possible that its expiration date has simply expired and its medicinal properties have been lost.

Pimafucin analogues during pregnancy

The closest analogue is natamycin. It is also the active substance included in pimafucin. In its pure form, it is less effective, since pimafucin contains auxiliary substances. Also, in its pure form, natamycin can harm the stomach and intestines. Dysbacteriosis may occur.

Clotrimazole

During pregnancy, it is better to use Pimafucin, as it is safer and is approved for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Clotrimazole is not recommended for use in the first trimester of pregnancy and during breastfeeding. Overdose causes severe intoxication, while Pimafucin has no side effects in case of overdose. In case of overdose of Clotrimazole, unlike Pimafucin, additional therapy is required.

Livarol

It is better to use Pimafucin, as it is more safe. Pimafucin has fewer side effects (in rare cases - diarrhea, nausea, only at the initial stages of administration). When taking Livarol, irritation, severe dizziness and nausea may be observed. In addition, the drug can cause severe allergic reactions, accordingly, it is contraindicated for people who suffer from allergies. Increases the amount of histamine in the body (which can already be increased during pregnancy). In this case, severe swelling, headaches, dizziness, drowsiness may be observed. The drug is contraindicated in the first trimester.

Terzhinan

It is better to use pimafucin. Firstly, it is easier to administer. Before administering terzhinan, the tablet is pre-soaked in water. The tablet form is not convenient for insertion into the vagina. Pimafucin suppositories have a more convenient, natural form, and do not cause discomfort when administered. Secondly, the course duration with terzhinan is much longer - 10-20 days, while pimafucin is treated for 5-7 days. Terzhinan can cause allergic reactions, it is contraindicated in the 1st trimester, as it penetrates transplacentally and affects the fetus. It can be used during breastfeeding only in extreme cases.

In addition, terzhinan is more often used in the presence of a secondary inflammatory process, in the combination of thrush with other pathologies, or in severe forms of fungal infection.

Hexicon

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, both hexicon and pimafucin can be used. But it should be taken into account that pimafusin causes allergic reactions and should be used with caution by people with allergic diseases. Also, taking hexicon can be accompanied by excessive dryness, stickiness of the skin of the face and hands, overdrying of the mucous membranes. Deposits of calculus and plaque may be observed. Sometimes taking hexicon is accompanied by taste disturbance. Incompatible with chlorhexidine. If hexicon gets on a surface previously treated with chlorhexidine, brown spots may form. Also, the drug is incompatible with iodine. It should be taken into account that soap neutralizes the drug, therefore, before applying the drug, it is necessary to completely get rid of even the slightest soap residue on the skin and mucous membranes.

Betadine

In case of thrush, it is better to use Pimafucin, since its main action is directed against the fungus. Betadine has mainly antibacterial properties. Antifungal activity is in second place. Batidine has a more powerful antiseptic effect. This may also have its drawbacks - dry mucous membranes, their burn. Pimafucin is safer during pregnancy, it acts gently. Betadine is more often used to treat skin, postoperative surfaces, trophic ulcers and bedsores. The instructions do not say that the drug is recommended for application to mucous membranes. There is no talk of its use during thrush. The drug cannot be used in the first trimester, as it can affect the fetus. In addition, it contains iodine, so with prolonged use, it is necessary to check the thyroid function. Newborns whose mothers used Betamin have congenital thyroid dysfunction.
