Sometimes it is very difficult to protect your body from all kinds of damage, so laser scar removal has become quite a popular procedure, especially among women.
Indications for laser scar removal
Laser removal of scars and marks that appeared on the body as a result of various mechanical damages is carried out if a person wants to get rid of the defect. The cost of such a service is always individual. It is determined by the specialist who will perform the procedure. Due to the fact that the laser allows you to almost completely get rid of the problem, reviews of the service are only positive.
Preparation
If you want to achieve effective results, you need to properly prepare yourself for the procedure. Before it, as before any other procedure that affects the skin, some experts recommend glycolic acid, tretinoin or other bleaching agents. But if the resurfacing is carried out using a low-intensity laser, then you can do without preparation.
Why is preparation necessary for laser scar removal? This is done to prevent pigmentation from appearing on the skin. It will also help the skin to recover quickly after the laser and make the results of the procedure more effective.
Laser Scar Removal Technique
Laser scar removal is performed only after the patient has been given sedatives and relaxants. The procedure lasts depending on the complexity and severity of the damage to the skin, as well as the type of laser used during the procedure. As a rule, it lasts fifteen minutes to an hour and a half. The skin may swell after the procedure. The swelling sometimes lasts up to three weeks. Also, in some cases, a bandage is needed.
Healing after laser scar removal lasts from five to ten days. If your skin turns red, don't worry. This is a good sign. You can't sunbathe for six months after the procedure, use sunscreen. The result after polishing can be seen in the first weeks after removal.
There are several types of lasers that are used to remove scars:
- Smartxide Dot CO2 – despite the fact that this device is considered a bit outdated in many clinics, it is used quite often. The unit is carbon dioxide. There are quite a lot of negative reviews and contraindications for using Smartxide Dot CO2. During the procedure, the so-called point effect is applied precisely to those areas of the skin where there are scars or cicatrices. Laser beams are in the form of small beams that create mini channels without damaging the skin. The rehabilitation period after the procedure is short due to the fact that the laser increases the process of collagen production. The body's recovery processes significantly help the skin to return to normal faster.
- Vascular laser – thanks to this device, it is possible to cause the so-called microvascular thrombosis of the vessels that are in the scar tissue. This makes them much softer, the intensity of the scar coloring decreases. As a rule, such a method is used in the correction of keloid or hypertrophic scars.
- Erbium laser – it is classified as a so-called ablative laser. They work in such a way that they gradually evaporate layers of the skin to the depth that was set earlier. Such a device allows you to remove scars with high precision. In the treatment area, recovery processes are launched, which allows you to form a new epidermis and dermis with a high collagen content. The procedure does not cause a burn of the surrounding tissue, since the laser acts sparingly. To get rid of a scar, you need to have several sessions.
- Neodymium laser – it is used for fractional photothermolysis. This type of laser is considered the most gentle, but the complete disappearance of the scar occurs quite slowly. After using the device, the vessels in the scar undergo partial coagulation. The collagen that has scarred is destroyed. Young fibroblasts and new collagen begin to divide quickly. The scar gradually dissolves on its own.
- Laser nanoperforation is a modern method that allows you to completely replace scar tissue with healthy tissue. The effect is contactless. The skin is not damaged, since there is no heating. The main advantage of the procedure is the fact that recovery occurs very quickly. The patient can not only lead a normal life, but also sunbathe.
Contraindications
Of course, like any other procedure that is surgical, laser scar removal is contraindicated in the following cases:
- If you have any skin diseases that are in the acute stage.
- If the patient has a blood disease.
- For oncological diseases.
- Diabetes in some stages.
- During pregnancy.
- If your skin is tanned.

Consequences
The laser affects the scar in such a way that it completely destroys the tissue. Healthy skin forms in place of the removed tissue over a period of time. Because of this, the scar becomes completely invisible, especially if it was small. After the procedure, special recovery courses are required to make the skin clean and beautiful.
Complications after laser scar removal
Due to the fact that laser scar removal is an effective and simple procedure, complications after it occur very rarely. Of course, this procedure has its own contraindications, which were written about above. If a patient with contraindications still decides to undergo the intervention, then he may have problems in the future. Herpes or dermatitis appear very rarely (in five to ten percent of cases). Usually they are easily treated after a properly selected treatment method by an experienced doctor.
Rehabilitation period
The rehabilitation period after laser scar removal lasts from five to seven days, depending on the complexity of the operation. At the same time, a crust forms on the site of the scar for the first seven to ten days, which should gradually peel off on its own. Remember that for three days after laser scar removal, you cannot apply alcohol-containing products to the skin. Also, do not use antiseptics. Patients are prohibited from going to the pool, sauna or bathhouse for the first time.
Wound care after laser scar removal
After laser resurfacing of scars, the wound must be bandaged. It is removed only on the third day. Since the skin is in a complex condition, which resembles a serious burn, it must be properly cared for. For five days after the procedure, carefully treat the wound with any anti-burn, wound-healing, antibacterial, moisturizing drug. Here, Argosulfan, Olazol, Pantesol, Bepanten-plus, Natursil, Levomekol, Vinizol, Levovinizol, Linetol and others are excellent.
Try to wash yourself only with thermal sterile water, spraying the skin with a spray bottle. In case of severe pain, it is recommended to use regular painkillers. Do not forget to treat the wound with saline or vinegar water solutions. Wound care after laser scar removal is carried out for three weeks.
