Depilation is often the cause of discomfort in the intimate area. In most cases, irritation on the pubis after shaving occurs if the procedure was performed incorrectly, or a low-quality or insufficiently sharp razor was used.

Are there ways to get rid of the consequences of skin irritation? How to prevent this trouble in the future?

Causes pubic irritation after shaving

When shaving, the skin on the pubis can be injured by the razor blades. However, for irritation to occur, other provoking factors must be present:

  • penetration of bacteria through microtraumas of the skin;
  • wearing synthetic or too tight underwear;
  • wearing too tight clothing in hot weather;
  • use of detergents or cosmetics that could cause an allergic reaction;
  • use of allergenic washing powders for washing underwear;
  • shaving across the grain;
  • shaving too often;
  • dry shaving;
  • neglect of skin care products after shaving;
  • using a dull razor;
  • using someone else's razor;
  • using a low-quality razor.

The blade intended for shaving not only cuts hair, but also damages the surface of the skin. If the skin is sensitive and thin (and on the pubis it is most often like that), then irritation is inevitable. Microdamages on the skin soon turn red, and if an infection occurs, pustules and pimples can form.

Symptoms pubic irritation after shaving

Severe irritation after shaving on the pubis can manifest itself in the form of redness, rash, small wounds, which are accompanied by itching and burning. If the skin on the pubis was not sufficiently prepared for the procedure, then after shaving, many small red dots may appear on it, which do not add beauty to the intimate area. In addition, such a condition cannot be called comfortable, so many are interested in the question: how can you cure and prevent subsequent irritation?

Most of us have very sensitive pubic skin. This is especially true when using new cosmetics and detergents, after swimming in pools and open water, after sunbathing and depilation. As a rule, the lighter and thinner the skin, the more susceptible it is to external and internal irritants.

Typically, signs of skin irritation on the pubic area appear almost immediately – 5-30 minutes after shaving.

The tendency of the pubic skin to severe irritation may be hereditary, or it may appear as a result of certain factors. The following factors contribute to increased skin sensitivity:

  • hormonal disorders;
  • allergies;
  • frequent stressful situations, chronic fatigue.

If you regularly experience severe irritation on your pubic area after shaving, it may mean that your skin is too sensitive. Therefore, you need to be especially careful about skin care after shaving.

Treatment pubic irritation after shaving

What to do if signs of irritation appear on the pubic area after shaving? To reduce the manifestation of discomfort, you can use both modern cosmetic products and folk remedies.

  • Bactericidal creams and ointments can be purchased at almost any pharmacy. The active components of such products are substances that promote rapid healing of microdamages and prevent bacteria from penetrating into wounds.
  • To prevent microbes from getting into microcuts, you should treat your pubic area with an alcohol lotion or hydrogen peroxide solution. You should not apply alcohol products frequently or in large quantities, otherwise you can dry out the skin and worsen the painful condition.
  • To soothe irritated pubic skin after shaving, you can apply compresses with infusions of medicinal herbs: celandine, chamomile, succession, sage.
  • Immediately after the depilation procedure, it is recommended to use special products - lotions or gels after shaving.

The following folk remedy may help:

  • take two tablets of acetylsalicylic acid, some warm water and a 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide;
  • mix the tablets with water until a thick paste forms;
  • apply to the pubic skin with massaging movements, then rinse;
  • wipe the pubic area with a cotton pad previously soaked in a hydrogen peroxide solution.

Instead of peroxide, it is permissible to use fresh lemon juice.

There is another remedy:

  • take a small amount of zinc ointment;
  • crush the chloramphenicol tablet;
  • mix both ingredients;
  • apply to pubic skin when irritation occurs, for 3-4 hours, then wash off.

The essence of this recipe is that zinc ointment has a healing and drying effect, and chloramphenicol prevents the penetration of microbes into the wounds.

Remedies for pubic irritation after shaving

  1. Malavtilin is a cream based on plant components that quickly heals all kinds of cracks and irritated areas. Malavtilin is applied to the pubic area 1-2 times a day, in a thin layer. Sometimes it can cause an allergic reaction.
  2. Panthenol spray is a healing preparation with dexpanthenol - provitamin B5. The preparation is applied evenly to the pubic area damaged by shaving, after shaking the can. The product can be used as needed, as there have been no cases of overdose with the spray.
  3. Zinc ointment or paste is a pharmaceutical product based on zinc oxide, which is used to treat many dermatological and cosmetic problems. To eliminate irritation on the pubis after shaving, the ointment is applied 3 times a day until the problem is completely resolved.
  4. Boro Plus is a well-known antiseptic ointment that can be used even for allergic irritations on the pubis. The drug has virtually no contraindications and side effects, as it contains only natural ingredients. The ointment is used up to 3 times a day.
  5. Chlorhexidine is an aqueous solution with a pronounced bactericidal effect, which is used 2-3 times a day. Frequent use of the product is not recommended, as it may cause increased dryness of the pubic skin.
  6. Miramistin is an antibacterial ointment that is widely used in medicine, including dermatology. In case of irritation on the pubis, the ointment can be thinly applied to the skin twice a day. A burning sensation rarely occurs when using the product.

It is not advisable to use hormonal ointments, such as hydrocortisone or prednisolone. Such drugs cannot be used without a doctor's prescription, as they have a large number of contraindications and side effects, and with prolonged use they can cause an addictive effect.

Prevention

To avoid irritation on the pubic area after shaving, you need to follow simple rules during the procedure:

  • You should not shave your pubic area "dry". You should first steam your skin in the shower or bath. You can also massage your wet skin before applying shaving cream, gel or foam.
  • Before shaving, the razor must be moistened with warm water and rinsed as often as possible during the procedure.
  • Shaving should be done not against the grain, but along the grain. Skin folds should not be allowed to appear in the direction of the razor: to do this, the fingers of the other hand should be used to slightly stretch the skin to ensure easier gliding of the blade.
  • Do not press too hard and do not move the razor over the same place. If the blade becomes dull, it must be replaced.
  • After the procedure, the pubic area should be thoroughly rinsed of the detergent, then gently dried and any aftershave product of your choice should be applied.

In addition, to avoid further skin irritation, use the following recommendations:

  • Do not rub the skin in the shaving area or use a hard towel;
  • it is enough to simply blot the shaved area with a soft napkin;
  • when rinsing off shaving foam or gel, it is advisable to do the final rinse with cool water;
  • you can use special antibacterial soap;
  • the use of talc after depilation is not recommended, as its microparticles “clog” the pores and aggravate inflammation;
  • pay attention to the production date and expiration dates of detergents, as spoiled soap or shower gel can also cause irritation of the pubic skin;
  • After the procedure, you should wear clean, non-synthetic underwear.

If you listen to all the recommendations offered, then irritation on the pubis after shaving will cease to be a problem. However, if the symptoms of irritation still do not go away, despite all the measures taken, then it is necessary to visit an experienced dermatologist: perhaps the cause of discomfort is associated with some disease or allergic condition.
