Lund University scientists have found that the level of blood in the blood of neurotensin can provoke the development of diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases and the development of breast cancer.

neurotensin

Neurotensin is a peptide that is expressed in the gastrointestinal tract and central nervous system.

Swedish scientists conducted a study that was aimed at identifying the relationship between the level of neurotensin concentration and the risk of diabetes mellitus, breast cancer and cardiovascular diseases, as well as the threat of premature death, with this related.

The results of the research of specialists are presented on the pages of the journal "American Medical Association".

"It's amazing that we have found such a clear connection with the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, as well as breast cancer. Obesity is a common risk factor for the development of all three diseases, but the association with neurotensin does not explain obesity or other known risk factors, "says Professor Olle Melander from the Department of Clinical Sciences at the University of Lund.

"Neurotensin enters the bloodstream after meals, especially after consuming foods saturated with fats. He takes part in the digestion of food, controls the speed of food through the intestines, pain and body temperature, "the researchers say.

We also managed to find out that neurotensin is directly involved in the regulation of appetite and controls the saturation of the body. Some studies have shown that in people with overweight, the process of releasing neurotensin is disrupted.

According to scientists, increasing the level of neurotensin a few years before the onset of the disease can be perceived as a marker that characterizes the degree of predisposition of a person to the disease. Researchers emphasize that the relationship between neurotension and mortality due to the development of diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases and breast cancer is noted exclusively in women.

Scientists hope that it will be possible to identify these relationships through genetic studies that are currently under way.
